Derek Hagan #53 prospect in 2006 NFL Draft.

Derek Hagan NFL Draft Bio

Derek Hagan has good size, movies quick and is tough. Derek runs good routes, smart and is a wily enough receiver to get open. Derek isn’t exactly a fast runner but he has good quickness. Hagan is a tough and will lay his body on the line to make a play. He is good at picking up those tough yards after the catch and never gives up until the play is over. Derek has good vision and adjusts well to bad throws. Derek Hagan is a very productive receiver who just seems to overachieve each night. Hagan does everything at a good level but doesn’t really do any one thing at an elite Lever. He just gets the most out of his ability.

Derek Hagan does not have great pure speed, and is not really considered a deep threat. Scouts feel that his lack of speed may give him trouble when trying to separate from pro defensive backs. Derek Hagan’s ability to haul in passes is sometimes in question as he drops some very catchable passes. Derek is not a great blocker and needs to improve in this area. Though Hagan can play down the middle he really doesn’t run many patterns there. Derek Hagan may not have a lot of upside at the next level, what you see is what you are most likely to get.

Derek Hagan is an excellent college receiver who might not have the same impact in the pro game given his physical tools. He will probably make a great #2 or #3 receiver in the pros but to expect much more from him is probably too optimistic. He has the skills to be a serviceable receiver in the NFL, just don’t expect him to be that impact player.
