A.J. Hawk NFL Draft Bio

First Round Prospect!

Possesses excellent instincts and demonstrates an extensive knowledge of the game. Highly athletic with excellent range, being able to make plays from sideline to sideline. A.J. has good speed, closes quickly and a dependable tackler. Very solid in coverage against backs and Tightends and he can shed would be blockers and works well in traffic. A.J. is very dependable, hard worker, intense and competitive. Throughout his young career he has been very productive and has been a team leader or captain. A.J. is an extremely tough player and possesses those intangibles to make him a very good NFL prospect.

A.J. is athletic but may not be as much as his stats suggest. Being a little bit shorter then ideal he will have to work hard to compensate. He will have trouble facing some of the massive blockers in the NHL running game. His lateral movements and ability to change direction are not up to NFL standards yet. Needs more work on blitz packages. A.J. also missed part of his senior year of high school due to injury which might make some scouts concerned.

Widely acclaimed as the best defensive player in college football as a senior and should be able to take his game into the NFL. May have been the first linebacker taken in the 2005 NFL draft had he not opted out. Has the potential to be an impact player at the pro game and should be regarded as a top prospect.
