Michael Okwo NFL Draft Bio
Michael Okwo (born January 24, 1985 in Redondo Beach, California) is an American football linebacker for the Chicago Bears of the NFL. He was selected in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft, and played his collegiate ball at Stanford University.
Okwo graduated from Mira Costa High School in 2003.

Not great size … Has experience of playing inside in a 3-4 defense, but not big enough to play in a 3-4 in the NFL … Elevated his stock with a strong Senior year … Suffered injury problems as a Junior, but still recorded 34 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and two sacks … Productive tackler … Makes plays against the run … Made some good plays against the run versus UCLA, with a big hit on a RB and another play where he stood up the runner in the hole and drove him back with good strength … Quiet game against USC, where he was blocked out on a TD run … Did make a good tackle on the edge, forcing the run inside and making the stop and also had a TD saving tackle on a QB keeper
College career
Senior Year
Earned First Team All-Pac-10 honors as a linebacker to mark the second time he earned the recognition in his career after making the First Team All-Pac-10 squad as a special teams player during the 2004 campaign ... Led the team in 2006 with 95 tackles despite missing two games due to a broken thumb suffered in training camp and posted a 9.56 tackle per game average that ranks tied for first in the Pac-10 and tied for 15th in the NCAA ... Also paced the club with 57 solo stops, taking over the lead with eight in the final game of his career at California (12/2/06), and was 14th nationally with an average of 5.70 per contest ... Second on the squad with two forced fumbles (#10 Pac-10), while ranking tied for second with 2.0 sacks, third in tackles-for-loss (5.0) and tied for second in pass breakups (5) ... Added a quarterback hurry ... Had a huge game at California (12/2/06) with a team-best nine tackles (eight solo), a key fourth quarter forced fumble and a pass breakup ... Had a career-high four pass breakups and his second sack of the season at Washington (11/11/06) ... Set a career-high with 15 tackles versus Washington State (the most by a Stanford player this season), while picking up a new career-best nine solo stops at UCLA (9/30/06) ... Recorded the first five double-digit tackles of his career in each of the first five contests he played in during the 2006 campaign ... Picked up his first sack of 2006 at Arizona State (10/21/06) ... Selected by The Sporting News as a preseason 2006 Second Team All-Pac-10 player.
Junior Year
Managed to make 34 tackles (26 solo, eight assists) in an injury-plagued campaign, making 5.5 tackles-for-loss (-29 yards) and being credited for the first 2.0 sacks (-21 yards) of his career ... Added his first career interception versus Oregon ... Had a career-high eight tackles (six solo, two assists), 1.5 tackles-for-loss and a half-sack versus UC Davis ... Came on at the end of the season as his injuries began to heal, making five tackles in each of the last two contests against California and Notre Dame while combining for 1.5 sacks (-14 yards) and 2.5 tackles-for-loss (-17 yards) in those two contests ... Played in 10 of 11 possible games, starting the first three contests.
Sophmore Year
Enjoyed an outstanding season, especially in the final three games of the year when he received extensive playing time ... Played in all 11 games and started the final two due to an injury to Kevin Schimmelmann ... Was the team's top special teams player and was recognized by the conference coaches as a First-Team All-Pacific-10 Conference selection in that area ... Finished the year with 39 total tackles, 4.0 tackles-for-loss, four pass breakups, a fumble recovery and a blocked punt ... In the final three games of the season, he tallied 22 tackles, 3.5 tackles-for-loss and a fumble recovery ...
