Kevin Kolb #41 prospect in 2007 NFL Draft.

Kevin Kolb NFL Draft Bio

Kevin Benjamin Kolb (born August 24, 1984 in Victoria, Texas) is an American football quarterback for the University of Houston Cougars' football team.

Personal Information
Kolb was born on August 24, 1984 in Victoria, Texas to Roy and Lanell Kolb. He is currently majoring in finance at the University of Houston.
High school career
While attending Stephenville High School, Kolb was a two-time UIL District 8-4A offensive MVP playing football for the Yellow Jackets. His most outstanding year was his senior year, 2002, in which he completed 206 of 321 passing attempts for 3,357 yards and 29 touchdowns. At the end of the season was selected Honorable Mention All-State and Second Team Academic All-State. Following his high school career, Kolb was recruited to play football by TCU, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Texas Tech. Kolb initially committed to Oklahoma State but recended his commitment when the University of Houston hired head coach Art Briles, a former head coach at Kolb's own Stephenville High School.

College career

2003
Kolb began his college career at the University of Houston as a true freshman in 2003 playing quarterback, making his debut against Rice University at Robertson Stadium. On Ocotber 25 of that year, Kolb accounted for over 400 yards passing and 100 yards rushing against TCU, only the fourth time this feat has been achieved in Division I-A of the NCAA. By all accounts, Kolb had an outstanding season, finishing the season with a 153.75 passing efficiency rating and accumulating 3,131 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, only 6 interceptions while completing 61.1 percent of his passes.

Kolb led the Cougars to a 7-5 regular-season record and a berth in the Hawaii Bowl, where they fell to the University of Hawaii, 54-48.

2004
Kolb was one of four players featured on the cover of the 2004 edition of Dave Campbell's Texas Football. That year, the Cougars regressed, finishing the season 3-8 and not playing in a bowl game.

2005
As a junior in 2005, he led the Cougars to a 6-5 regular-season record. He named the Cougars' MVP in the Fort Worth Bowl in a 42-13 loss to Kansas, and for the 2005 season was ranked 40th in passing efficiency, 15th for total offense, 17th for pass completions per game and 37th in points responsible for in Division I-A.

2006
In the 2006 season, Kolb has thrown for 27 touchdowns while throwing only 3 interceptions. He has completed 67.70% of his passes and has an efficiency rating of 161.99 for the season.

Kolb was held to 196 yards passing in a close 14-13 loss to the Miami Hurricanes. He did score Houston's only touchdown of the game on a five yard run. In the Cougars' next game, he had 367 yards passing and three touchdowns (two passing) in a 31-28 loss to Louisiana-Lafayette.

Kolb led the Houston Cougars to a 9-3 finish in the 2006 regular season, helping them earn their first trip to the Conference USA championship in ten years. In the championship game held at Robertson Stadium, they faced the Golden Eagles of Southern Mississippi. Kolb accounted for 258 passing yards and two touchdowns, and also had a rushing touchdown of 46 yards. By being victorious over the Eagles, the Cougars won their first conference championship in ten years and were awarded with a trip to play in the Liberty Bowl against the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Despite a strong performance by Kolb in the Liberty Bowl, completing 26 of 39 passes for 386 passing yards, 3 touchdowns, and one interception, the Cougars lost their third bowl game in four years with a final score of 44-36, ending Kolb's collegiate career.

NFL Career
Shortly after his Houston Cougars' defeat at the hands of the South Carolina Gamecocks in the 2006 Liberty Bowl, Kolb hired sports agents Jeff Nalley and Vann McElroy of Select Sports Group to assist him in the NFL draft and to negotiate a contract with a team after the draft. In addition, Kolb has been working out with NFL quarterbacks coach Jerry Rhome, who last year helped current Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young for the NFL Scouting Combine that preceeds each year's draft.

Currently, Kolb is widely projected by NFL scouts to be drafted in the second round. ESPN.com's Mel Kiper currently has Kolb tied for the 5th best quarterback available in the draft.

As with any football player entering the NFL draft, Kolb's performance at the NFL Scouting Combine in February will play a significant role in whether his draft position rises or falls.
