Levi Brown #23 prospect in 2007 NFL Draft.

Levi Brown NFL Draft Bio

Levi James Brown III was born on March 16, 1984 in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Currently, he is the starting left tackle for Penn State and a 2007 NFL Draft prospect.

High School Career
Brown attended Granby High School in Norfolk, Virginia where he was a standout offensive and defensive lineman. He was selected first-team All-Tidewater and second-team all-state on both offense and defense by the Virginia high school coaches. His play earned him a spot at the U.S. Army All-American game.

College Career
Brown redshirted his freshman season in 2002. In 2003, as a redshirt freshman, he started all 12 games at left tackle and played 841 snaps. In 2004, as a sophomore, Brown started 10 games, including 1 game at right tackle against Iowa, and played 630 snaps. In 2005, as a junior, he started every game at left tackle and played 869 snaps. He was an AP and SportsIllustrated second-team All-America selection as well as a first-team All-Big Ten

Strengths:
Levi Brown has excellent size with a huge frame and long arms. Levi is a superb athlete with good quickness for his size, and has nimble feet. Strong and able to stun with his initial punch, once Levi is able to lock on he is a force. He slides well and can handle speed off the edge and he is a solid run blocker who gets a pretty good push. An experienced player, Brown has 4 years of starting experience versus top competition and he is smart, hard working and a good leader.

Weaknesses:
Levi Brown does not have that mean streak you would generally like to see, and may not have that killer instinct. Levi is strong but not not overly powerful or aggressive. He has not demonstrated to this point in his career to be a great student of the game, and needs to become more of a technician. With youth Levi Brown is a somewhat inconsistent player who can be dominant at times and a bit lackadaisical at others. He needs to learn to play with better leverage.

Notes:
Levi Brown did not begin playing football until the ninth grade because he was too heavy for youth leagues. He started college as a defensive tackle and after redshirting moved to the offensive line in 2003. Levi Brown could develop into either a left or right tackle at the pro level. A little known fact is that Levi Brown had arthroscopic surgery on his knee as a senior and missed some action which might leave some teams a little concerned about his health. Levi has all the tools you look for physically and is certainly battle tested but you wonder if his demeanor may prevent him from reaching his full potential. Levi Brown is a bit of a gamble, he has a lot of upside to a point where he could anchor the offensive line or end up really disappointing you.
