DeMarcus Tyler #18 prospect in 2007 NFL Draft.

DeMarcus Tyler NFL Draft Bio

DeMarcus "Tank" Tyler (born on February 14, 1985) is a defensive tackle that attends North Carolina State University. He is a top draft prospect for the 2007 NFL Draft and played on the same defensive line as former 1st round picks Mario Williams, Manny Lawson, and John McCargo. Tyler stands at 6'2" and weighs 323 lbs.

Strengths:
DeMarcus Tyler is a three year starter who brings a lot of experience to the table. At 6' 2" tall and 323lbs he has good size and excellent speed for a big man. Overall DeMarcus is a decent athlete with excellent quickness. Tyler is very strong and powerful and is solid at the point of attack where he can hold his ground dig in and deliver blows to drive blockers backward. With excellent speed and ability DeMarcus is able to penetrate and disrupt the action in the backfield. Pursues well and chases when he's not tired and can disengage from blocks well. DeMarcus Tyler is still a raw prospect who is still improving, having his best year in '06.

Weaknesses:
Though DeMarcus Tyler is a decent athlete he finds that he gets winded easily and needs to get into better and stamina has been a problem. Seems to play faster then his timed speed but Tyler lacks that speed burst to close. DeMarcus Tyler will need to work on playing with more consistent leverage and keeping his pad level down. To play at the next level DeMarcus will need to learn how to use his hands better. Only an average pass rusher who seems to lack work ethic and some scouts worry that his intelligence and intangibles are not at an elite level

Notes:
DeMarcus Tyler's nickname is the "Tank". He has played with some very good players in his short career playing on the same defensive line that produced three 2006 first round picks (Mario Williams, Manny Lawson and John McCargo). He was briefly moved to the offensive line as a sophomore but excels on defense and really broke out as a senior in '06 and elevated his draft stock a great deal which is all the more impressive when you consider that he wasn't surrounded my as much talent as he was in previous years. Scouts worry that he will still take too many plays off but there is no denying the talent and he has the tools. A great coach with an already steady defense might just be able to take DeMarcus Tyler to the next level. All in all, DeMarcus is a boom or bust type player who could excel with a more consistent effort.
