Elvis Dumervil is a very good athlete with the quickness and pass-rush moves to consistently pressure and sack the quarterback when he gets off the ball well. Has a larger variety of pass-rush moves than most college defensive ends. Seems to know how to set up and defeat offensive tackles. Has the natural strength to drive offensive tackles backward when he bull rushes aggressively and can hold ground against offensive linemen that run block. Has a very good playing speed, chasing down running plays -- explosive closing burst helps him finish plays consistently.

Obviously, Dumervil's lack of height is a major issue because it usually means shorter arms, which are a real hinderence. When Dumervil is exploding off the ball he can overcome his lack of height to be a very productive pass rusher, but the trouble is that on at least 50 percent of the snaps he is a beat late moving at the snap.
