John McCargo #61 prospect in 2006 NFL Draft.

John McCargo NFL Draft Bio

John McCargo is and excellent penetrator and can be very disruptive in the middle as a result. McCargo has outstanding strength, very aggressive and uses his hands and arms well. John is a consistent performer who had at least one tackle for a loss in every game he played as a junior in college. John McCargo is always active and does an excellent job of shedding blockers, and splitting the double team. Always a productive player who has a knack for making plays in the opponent’s backfield.

The big question is whether John McCargo’s production was a result of his talent or a result of playing along side Mario Williams and Manny Lawson. Durability might be a question for some scouts as John missed five games with a broken foot in 2005. John McCargo does not have great speed, has never put up huge sack numbers, and could be better versus the run. At times, John gets caught up in the play by being too aggressive, taking himself out of plays and losing his focus.

John McCargo is an academic All-ACC performer. McCargo was overshadowed on the North Carolina St. defensive line by all of the talent that surrounded him. Even still North Carolina St. had three great seasons for the Wolfpack. There may be questions surrounding his numbers but you sure can't ignore the production.
