Dominique Byrd NFL Draft Bio
Dominique Byrd NFL Draft Bio

Dominique Byrd is an offensive talent who has tremendous hands and has a knack for making the spectacular catch. In college Byrd was a gamebreaker who can make plays down the field. He is a smooth athlete with good quickness and is a threat to run after the catch. His timed speed is a little deceptive as he seems to play and run faster in pads than he runs in practice and he can stretch the seam despite his average speed. Dominique Byrd has excellent body control, decent agility and works hard. In college Dominique was a very productive and a key piece in a high-powered offense.

Dominique Byrd is an excellent prospect who doesn't have the elite speed you look for in a top pass catching tight end. He also lacks ideal size and will have to hit the weights to get bigger and stronger. His blocking skills are a little weak and need to be worked on. Two major concerns that scouts have will need to be addressed. Dominique Byrd has dealt with a number of injuries throughout his career and durability is a major concern. Not only that but it has been said that he is disruptive in the dressing room and may have some character questions that will need to be investigated before any team will want to take a chance.

If you judge Dominique Byrd based solely on his physical attributes he wouldn't look like a first couple of rounds prospect. When you watch him play you notice that he does is make plays and contributes well. Dominique may not be a full-time starter at the next level but with so many teams looking to use a tight end as a weapon in the passing game he will garner some interest in the 2006 NFL draft. Byrd will at the very least find playing time as a backup. Do not underestimate Dominique Byrd, as he is probably a better prospect then many scouts give him credit for. I expect to see Dominique go in early to middle of the second round.
