Laurence Maroney #25 prospect in 2006 NFL Draft.

Laurence Maroney NFL Draft Bio

Laurence Maroney is a big play threat who can take it the distance at any point and on any play in a game Laurence as been extremely productive at the college level and should be able to earn a spot in the NFL Maroney is a patient runner with excellent vision and instincts that allow him to find the hole in a defense and explode threw it. His vision allows him to utilize his blockers and work in traffic effectively. When a seem is exposed Maroney can explode threw the hole, with a strong lower body and the ability to break tackles. Laurence Maroney has that extra gear which is much faster then his time trials indicate. He just seems to go faster in game situations which may allow him to also double duty as a kick returner.

In the College game Laurence Maroney was able to dominate a game but in the NFL game we wonder if he has the size to continue his success. He is a little undersized to be a feature back, and might make teams think twice. Laurence’s hands are not the best and he was not used much as a receiver in college as a result. Maroney’s game is all about elusiveness; he doesn’t pound the ball down the defensive line but rather picks holes to exploit and shies away from contact when possible. During his time with Minnesota he played in a system that was perfect for the running game. Scouts wonder if he is put in a different system if he can still produce those big numbers in the NFL. The only other question regarding Laurence is not really his fault. He hails from a program known for great college runners who failed to make much of an impact in the NFL and it might make him slip down a little in the draft.

Laurence Maroney is a prolific college running back, who might not be as good as his college numbers suggest. There are a lot of things to like about this Laurence, but when you factor in his size, receiving abilities and the system he plays in there are certainly some things that concern you as well. If he can take his abilities to the NFL and really work hard at becoming a featured back he might just perform well. If he doesn’t improve, doesn’t work hard he will make one team very unhappy. Still a great prospect, but not one of those can’t miss types you want to draft.
