Vernon Davis #11 prospect in 2006 NFL Draft.

Vernon Davis NFL Draft Bio

First Round Prospect

Vernon Davis is an amazing natural athlete who possesses rare ability. Davis had tremendous speed and can get downfield quickly which is a major asset in the passing game. Vernon has great hands, runs well after the catch, and is an outstanding leaper with great body control. Vernon Davis has a knack for getting open. Extremely strong and versatile player, Vernon also has experience lining up at fullback and wide receiver. Vernon was very productive, leading the ACC with 871 receiving yards as a junior and he showed improvement each year. Vernon is one of those prospects that still has a lot of upside and potential.

Vernon Davis does not have the height you look for in a Tightend and needs to improve as a blocker to make an impact at the NFL level. Vernon’s blocking is adequate right now but need to get better in that area. Davis is still a little raw and needs to round out the rough edges and master the nuances of the game. The knock on Davis is that he is somewhat of a wide receiver trapped in a tight ends body and often times plays like it.

Vernon Davis owns school strength records for a tight end in bench (460), power clean (355), vertical jump (40 inches), index (797), squat (685) and 40-yard dash time (4.41), all of which were recorded in the spring of 2005. Vernon Davis is probably one of the best tight end prospects to come along in some time and his final grade will likely be close to that of guys like Tony Gonzalez and Kellen Winslow II when they were coming out.
