Matt Leinart #3 prospect in 2006 NFL Draft.

Matt Leinart NFL Draft Bio

In a bit of a surprise, Matt Leinart dropped from a top 3 NFL prospect to 10th overall selected by Arizona Cardinals.

Elite Prospect
Matt is the consummate team leader with excellent leadership abilities. Matt possesses all of those intangibles that will make him a dominate field general. Matt Leinart possesses a solid 6 foot 5 inch frame, combined with better then average speed and strength. Matt has excellent touch on the ball, demonstrating, on nightly bases, that he can put a ball into coverage where only his receiver can pick it up. His calm demeanor and calmness under pressure has scouts saying he has ice in his veins, as he always arises to the occasion in the biggest games. Matt is a very tough player and a big time gamer who makes smart decisions. Matt is mature, intelligent and ready to play in the NFL now!

Only question of concerns we have are Matt's durability and arm strength. Matt had a rather severe injury to his throwing arm in high school and then later, prior to his senior year Matt required elbow surgery. Arm strength is good but special. Scouts wonder if Matt is really as good as he looks or if he is the beneficiary of a great supporting cast.

Matt is a Heisman Trophy winner who opted out of the draft and return to school for the 2005 draft. Compared with Tom Brady as a guy who makes up for physical shortcoming with those top intangibles that could make Matt a big winner in the NFL. Projected to be a possible franchise player.
