It hasn't been a great year for a certain Houston gambling enthusiast's bank account. Houston-area furniture chain owner Jim McIngvale, better known as “Mattress Mack,” lost nearly $12 million last year betting on the Astros to win the World Series, ostensibly as a way to hedge against a refund promotion for his stores. McIngvale kicked off a new year of sports betting by turning his attention to a new sport, according to The Action Network.

Chiefs’ Reid headed back to Super Bowl after long absence

Sunday, January 19th, 2020

Andy Reid sat inside a small dorm room on the campus of Missouri Western State six months ago, right as training camp got underway, and lamented for a moment how close his Kansas City Chiefs came to the Super Bowl last season. After guiding his team through a litany of injuries this season, including a scary knee injury to star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Reid pushed the Chiefs across the finish line. ''Driving us through training camp and into the season, when you have great expectations like this team has, to be sitting here today, that's a challenge - a lot of things have to happen,'' Reid said.

Unlikely star Raheem Mostert carries 49ers to big early lead over Packers

Sunday, January 19th, 2020

The San Francisco 49ers have opened up a 17-0 lead over the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game, and the star of the game thus far is a pretty unlikely one: running back Raheem Mostert. Mostert has both of San Francisco's touchdowns, the first a beautiful 36-yard run on a third-and-8 with 5:55 to play in the first quarter, and the second at 9:12 in the second quarter, when he ran wide left from 9 yards out and dove for the pylon. Mostert had well over 100 yards rushing in the first half.

Frank Clark backs up talk, declares Chiefs D league’s best

Sunday, January 19th, 2020

Chiefs pass-rusher Frank Clark tempted fate. After providing not just material, but the whole bulletin board by saying Titans running back Derrick Henry was “not hard to hit” last week, the Chiefs responded by limiting Henry to 69 yards on 19 carries. Henry had rushed for 211, 182, and 195 yards in his last three games, so there was no reason to expect that kind of discrepancy.

Soon, we'll get to see Mahomes and that Reid-designed offense show their stuff in Miami as well.

Mahomes leads Chiefs past Titans and into Super Bowl

Sunday, January 19th, 2020

Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes broke the Tennessee Titans' backs with a dazzling 27-yard first-half touchdown run as the Chiefs overcame a 10-0 deficit to win the American Football Conference title game 35-24 and return to the Super Bowl for the first time in 50 seasons on Sunday. Mahomes, who also threw three touchdown passes, gave the Chiefs their first lead at 21-17 with the tackle-breaking run with 11 seconds left in the opening half. They went on to dominate the second half and grab a spot in the Feb. 2 Super Bowl in Miami against the winner of the San Francisco 49ers-Green Bay Chiefs game later on Sunday.
