Houston Texans wide receiver Jaelen Strong has been arrested for marijuana possession, police in the Phoenix suburb of Scottsdale said Monday. Scottsdale police spokesman Kevin Watts said Strong was a passenger in a Maserati that was stopped just before midnight when officers noticed the luxury car didn't have a visible license plate. Officers said they detected the strong odor of marijuana coming from the inside of the vehicle, according to Watts.

Lee Stempniak traded on NHL deadline day for 3rd straight year

For the third year in a row and fourth time overall, veteran NHL forward Lee Stempniak was traded on deadline day, this time departing New Jersey for the Boston Bruins. The 33-year-old pending unrestricted free agent is on track for a career-high 54 points.

The NFC champion Carolina Panthers have a $14 million decision to make. The Panthers have until the NFL-imposed 4 p.m. EST Tuesday deadline to decide on whether to use the franchise tag on All-Pro cornerback Josh Norman, who had a breakout season in 2015 and helped them reach the Super Bowl for the first time in 12 years. The team began negotiations with Norman's agents last week at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis in hopes of reaching a long-term contract with the team's top cornerback.

The Chicago Bears placed the franchise tag on top receiver Alshon Jeffery on Monday, leaving him until July 15 to reach a multi-year deal or play next season for $14.6 million. The Bears opted to use the non-exclusive tag, allowing Jeffery to negotiate with other teams. If Jeffery signs elsewhere, that organization would have to send the Bears two first-round draft picks.
