We're only in the second week of the NFL preseason and the New England Patriots are apparently not willing to take any risks with their starting options. With quarterback Tom Brady already confirmed to be sitting against the Tennessee Titans, Kevin Duffy of The Boston Herald is reporting that many of the veterans in the Patriots secondary will likely get the night off. This certainly makes sense, as these players all appear to be roster locks for the squad.

The 40-year-old has put his plans for a career in broadcasting on hold to sign for the Eagles, who required additional cover at the position behind starter Carson Wentz. After Nate Sudfeld broke his wrist earlier in preseason against the Tennessee Titans, Cody Kessler suffered a concussion less than three minutes into Thursday's fixture against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Jets linebacker Avery Williamson is expected to miss the season with a torn ACL, according to multiple reports. The 27-year-old Williamson suffered the injury Thursday night in the Jets' preseason game against Atlanta when he collided in the second quarter with Falcons cornerback Tevaughn Campbell. The Tennessee Titans drafted Williamson, a Kentucky product, in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Via multiple reports, an MRI confirmed inside linebacker and signal-caller Avery Williamson tore his right ACL on Thursday night against the Atlanta Falcons. A fifth-round pick of the Tennessee Titans in 2014, Williamson blossomed in his first four years in Tennessee, starting 59 of 63 regular-season games.

The Tennessee Titans signed Joshua Smith and waived fellow linebacker James Folston on Friday. Smith is a local product, having grown up in Murfreesboro (Tenn.) and playing collegiately at Vanderbilt. Listed at 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds, Smith joins undrafted free-agent defensive back LaDarius Wiley as the former Commodores players on Tennessee's roster.

Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon is prepared to sit out regular-season games absent a new contract, ESPN reported Thursday. The report adds that Gordon, a two-time Pro Bowler, wants to return in time for the regular season, but the sides have not made progress toward a deal. Gordon, 26, has held out for all of training camp in search of an extension as he enters the fifth-year option of his rookie contract, which will pay him $5.6 million in 2019.

Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore and Brown refused to let go of each other during a drill and a scuffle ensued as players from both teams intervened. The rookie explained his side of the altercation after practice, and as you might expect, a little trash talk was involved.
