Panthers win fourth in a row, beat Bucs in London

Sunday, October 13th, 2019

The Panthers won their fourth straight game with their backup quarterback under center, beating the Buccaneers 37-26 in London. With the Panthers taking over the league lead in sacks with seven on Sunday (giving them 27 on the year), the Panthers were able to get ahead early and stay that way. It's a good combination at the moment, and there's no indication that Cam Newton's going to be healthy enough for the long-term questions to be anything but moot.

After an offseason that included new head coach Bruce Arians questioning his desire, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers cut franchise cornerstone Gerald McCoy in May. A six-time Pro Bowler with Tampa Bay and fixture in the community, the Buccaneers didn't want to pay the $13 million salary McCoy had been due for this season, so he was gone. After parting ways with McCoy, the Bucs signed Ndamukong Suh, older than McCoy and not exactly known for his charitable works, to a one-year contract with a max value of $10 million.

Rivera confident Panthers star McCaffrey will be fine to face Bucs in London

Thursday, October 10th, 2019

Running back Christian McCaffrey gave Carolina Panthers fans a scare when he appeared on Wednesday's injury report, but head coach Ron Rivera believes the NFL's leading rusher will be ready to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in London on Sunday. McCaffrey is having an outstanding season with the 3-2 Panthers as he leads the league in rushing with 587 yards, while only Austin Ekeler has more receiving yards among running backs. Last weekend McCaffrey rushed for 176 yards and two touchdowns in a 34-27 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, though he landed awkwardly on his back when flipping into the end zone for one of those scores.
