Vikings rookie long-snapper allowed to play in NFL while honoring Air Force commitment

If he makes it on the roster of the Minnesota Vikings or any other NFL team, rookie long-snapper Austin Cutting is going to have a busy life over the next two years. The Air Force Academy graduate will be allowed to play in the NFL while serving his required two-year military commitment by working as a recruiter in Minnesota, according to the Pioneer Press. The Vikings drafted Cutting in the seventh round (250th overall) of the 2019 NFL draft.

He also made it clear he believes the CFP selection committee needs a “stronger commitment” to strength of schedule and conference championships when determining its rankings. The best I can hope for is that the College Football Playoff committee pays more attention to the founders' effort to value strength of schedule as well as winning conference championships. The actual language in the founding document says, 'when comparing teams with similar records and similar resumes, should look at strength of schedule as well as winning conference championships,'” Delany said.

After a season in which the 49ers were tied for last in the NFL in rushing touchdowns, 49ers general manager John Lynch absolutely will be looking for increased production and scoring from the running back position. All curses aside, if the recently released Madden NFL 20 ratings are any indication, the team has a strong positional group at running back -- at least in one important category. The two highest speed ratings at the running back position in the upcoming game find their lockers at Levi's Stadium, as Matt Breida and offseason addition Tevin Coleman share the top spot with a 94 rating.

The Wilf family that owns the Minnesota Vikings is launching an esports franchise that will compete in a Call of Duty league.  The league is run by Activision Blizzard (NASDAQ: ATVI), a Santa Monica, Calif.-based video game company with $7.5 billion in annual revenue. The Minnesota team will be run by Brett Diamond, who was previously the Vikings' director of partnership strategy and worked in the NFL league office before that. Diamond is the son of Jeff Diamond, the former Vikings general manager and architect of the team's successful run in the 1990s.

Teddy Bridgewater had an opportunity this offseason to compete for a starting job with the Miami Dolphins, who made a big push to sign the quarterback. While the starting position wasn't guaranteed, Bridgewater would have at least had the opportunity to be on the field with the Dolphins — rather than in New Orleans, where he's locked in as Drew Brees' backup. At the last minute, though, Bridgewater agreed to return to New Orleans, signing a one-year, $7.25 million deal.
