Seattle Seahawks linked to Vikings DE Everson Griffen

Everson Griffen is set to hit the market in free agency and the Seattle Seahawks have been one of several teams linked to the Minnesota Vikings pass rusher. Per Ben Goessling of the Star Tribune, Seattle could be a potential landing spot for Griffen, who has reportedly voided the final three years of his deal in Minnesota. He also formerly played for Seahawks coach Pete Carroll at USC.

Griffen has chosen to exercise his option to void the remaining three years on his contract, a person with knowledge of the decision confirmed Thursday to The Associated Press. To give the team more space for 2019 and avoid being released, Griffen agreed a year ago to a restructured deal that reduced his base salary and added performance incentives for playing time and sacks to trigger his opt-out clause.

Minnesota Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen will opt out of his contract and become a free agent, multiple outlets reported Thursday. The four-time Pro Bowl selection has three years remaining on his deal (2020-22), but he reached two statistical targets in 2019 that triggered his potential exit. According to ESPN, Griffen needed to register six or more sacks and play 57 percent or more of the Vikings' snaps.

Redskins exercise 2020 club option on RB Adrian Peterson

There's at least one thing the Washington Redskins won't be changing before the start of the 2020 season: their leading rusher. Washington announced on Wednesday that they're exercising the option on running back Adrian Peterson's contract, meaning he'll return to the team in 2020 for his 14th NFL season. According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Peterson is set to make $2.5 million in 2020, with an additional $1.5 million in incentives.

Drew Brees has confirmed he will return for the 2020 NFL season. The quarterback is poised to enter free agency but looks set to sign fresh terms with the New Orleans Saints after the 41-year-old revealed he will eschew retirement and play on for a 20th season in the league. Last season Brees helped the Saints to a 13-3 record despite missing five games with a thumb injury.

St. John’s-St. Thomas game gets moved to Vikings stadium

NCAA Division III rivals St. John's and St. Thomas will play their final game as Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes at U.S. Bank Stadium this fall. St. John's announced Wednesday that the Nov. 7 game will be in Minneapolis, the first college football game to be staged at the NFL home of the Minnesota Vikings. St. Thomas, which will be ousted from the MIAC after the 2020-21 school year for competitive reasons, has applied to the NCAA to become a Division I institution.
