A look at the NFL in the 1960s

Friday, October 18th, 2019

TOP TEAMS The Packers were the dominant team of the 1960s, winning NFL championships in 1961, '62 and '65 and then winning the NFL titles and the first two Super Bowls against the AFL champion Kansas City in the 1966 season and Oakland in the 1967 season with a roster that included 12 Hall of Famer players and coach Vince Lombardi. The tough luck team of the decade might have been the Baltimore Colts. They lost 13-10 in overtime to Green Bay in the 1965 playoffs when they had to play with halfback Tom Matte as the QB with Johnny Unitas and backup Gary Cuozzo injured.

Patriots not taking Darnold, Jets for granted

Thursday, October 17th, 2019

The New England Patriots didn't allow an offensive touchdown while beating the New York Jets last month. But New York didn't have Sam Darnold at the time, so New England isn't taking the Jets lightly when the two AFC East teams meet again on Monday night at East Rutherford, N.J. The Patriots (6-0) will be looking to defeat New York for the eighth consecutive time and are largely dismissing the Week 3 victory in which they held a Jets' squad quarterbacked by since-released Luke Falk to 105 total yards in a 30-14 triumph.

Rams, Cowboys look to stop the rot

Thursday, October 17th, 2019

The Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams will attempt to get their faltering seasons back on track on Sunday after a run of defeats that has left each franchise flirting with full-blown crisis. The Cowboys started their campaign looking like potential Super Bowl contenders, with a smoothly functioning offense powering them to wins over New York, Washington and Miami. But back-to-back defeats against the New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers followed by a shock loss to the hapless New York Jets last Sunday have delivered a stinging reality check to head coach Jason Garrett's side.

Stephen A. Smith calls Demaryius Thomas ‘delusional’ for Patriots comments

Thursday, October 17th, 2019

Demaryius Thomas didn't hold back when describing the end to his tenure with the New England Patriots. Thomas, who was traded from the Patriots to the New York Jets after Week 1, made his frustration known in recent comments made to the New York Daily News, calling the situation "insulting" and "a waste of time." ESPN's Stephen A. Smith wasn't a huge fan of Thomas' remarks, and he even went so far as to describe the veteran wide receiver as "delusional" for his comments ripping the Patriots.

C.J. Mosley injury: Jets’ star linebacker to return vs. Patriots in Week 7

Thursday, October 17th, 2019

The New York Jets defense will be receiving a huge boost ahead of Monday night's Week 7 showdown against the New England Patriots at MetLife Stadium. Veteran linebacker C.J. Mosley, who has missed the last four games because of a groin injury, told reporters Thursday that he's playing versus the rival Patriots. The Jets signed Mosley to a five-year, $85 million free-agent contract in March.

Jets LB Mosley participates in individual drills

Thursday, October 17th, 2019

New York Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley participated in individual drills Thursday and could be on the field for Monday night's showdown with the New England Patriots. The Jets' prized free-agent acquisition has been sidelined since suffering a groin injury during the second half of the season-opening loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 8. Coach Adam Gase said the ideal plan is for Mosley to do more in practice on Friday and Saturday with an eye on helping the Jets (1-4) against the visiting Patriots (6-0).

Demaryius Thomas insulted by Patriots’ ‘waste of time’ with him before trade

Thursday, October 17th, 2019

Demaryius Thomas won't fondly recall his time with the New England Patriots. Thomas signed with the patriots in the offseason, was cut before the season and brought back. Then, for the brief instant it seemed Antonio Brown would be a part of the Patriots all season, New England traded Thomas to the New York Jets.

Jets hopeful C.J. Mosley closer to return from groin injury

Wednesday, October 16th, 2019

The next step in C.J. Mosley's return will come on the practice field Thursday. The Jets are planning to have the star linebacker participate in individual drills this week as he continues to recover from a groin injury that has sidelined him since the season opener. ''I'm hopeful for (Thursday), that he'll be able to do individual (drills) and just kind of see how it goes,'' coach Adam Gase said at the team's facility in Florham Park, New Jersey.
