Rams acquire CB Ramsey in blockbuster deal with Jags

Tuesday, October 15th, 2019

Hours after trading away cornerback Marcus Peters, the Los Angeles Rams dealt two first-round picks and a fourth-rounder to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for disgruntled cornerback Jalen Ramsey. The Jaguars will receive the Rams' first-rounders in each of the next two years, plus a fourth-rounder in 2021. Ramsey, a two-time Pro Bowler and a 2017 first-team All-Pro, requested a trade from Jacksonville after Week 2, then played on Thursday night in Week 3 but sat out the Jaguars' last three games with a back injury.

Jaguars send Jalen Ramsey to Rams for two first-round picks

Tuesday, October 15th, 2019

The Jalen Ramsey era in Jacksonville is over, and now he's heading to Los Angeles. The Jaguars are trading Ramsey to the Rams for two first-round draft picks as well as the Rams' 2021 fourth-round pick. That's a massive haul for any one player, but the Jaguars weren't going to give Ramsey up for anything less than a major haul.

Will the Bears face the Saints without Drew Brees AND Alvin Kamara?

Tuesday, October 15th, 2019

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees isn't expected to play Sunday at Soldier Field against the Bears as he continues to rehab his thumb injury. Teddy Bridgewater has thrived in his absence, completing over 69% of his passes for 1,089 yards, seven touchdowns and just two interceptions in five games (four starts). But the engine that makes the Saints offense go is RB Alvin Kamara, who tweaked his knee against the Jaguars Sunday.

49ers bigger Week 7 favorites vs. Washington than any road game in years

Monday, October 14th, 2019

Not only is San Francisco 5-0 for the first time since 1990, but it enters Week 7 as a bigger road favorite than at any point since 2013. The 49ers were 14.5-point favorites against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Oct. 27, 2013, and San Francisco covered with a 42-10 win over the then-winless Jaguars. It has been even longer since the 49ers were a double-digit favorite in a true road game.

Saints star Brees says he’s progressing well after thumb surgery

Monday, October 14th, 2019

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is optimistic as he progresses through rehab following thumb surgery. Brees sustained a torn ligament in his thumb and had surgery on September 18 after consulting with two doctors and speaking to other professional athletes who had a similar injury, including Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout and Oklahoma City Thunder guard Chris Paul. The 40-year-old star said after the Saints' Week 2 loss to the Los Angeles Rams that he originally hurt his thumb on a pass attempt to Jared Cook before later hitting it on Aaron Donald.

Jaguars need more receiving options for rookie Minshew

Monday, October 14th, 2019

The Jacksonville Jaguars have to find more options for rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew. New Orleans clamped down on burgeoning receiver DJ Chark in its 13-6 victory at Jacksonville on Sunday, and the Jaguars failed to adjust to the Saints' two-man scheme. The Saints bracketed Chark, who entered the game as the AFC's leading receiver, and played man-to-man coverage everywhere else.

Divine Intervention? Pope Francis May Have Accidentally Blessed the New Orleans Saints With a Victory Thanks to This Accidental Tweet

Monday, October 14th, 2019

The New Orleans Saints may have had a little help from the Vatican in their win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. On Sunday, Pope Francis tweeted a few words of prayer, but when he added a hashtag to the word “saints” he accidentally turned his words of faith into words of support for the NFL team, which Saints fans absolutely loved. It all started when the Pope tweeted giving thanks for “our new #Saints”, which the Sporting News reports was most likely a reference to a group of actual saints that the Pope had recently canonized.

Bridgewater now 4-0 as starter after Saints top Jaguars 13-6

Sunday, October 13th, 2019

Teddy Bridgewater probably should have had another multi-touchdown day for the New Orleans Saints. Bridgewater missed wide-open receivers Michael Thomas and Ted Ginn for would-be scores in the 13-6 victory Sunday, two of just a handful of mistakes for the backup quarterback. Bridgewater was on target when it mattered most, connecting with Jared Cook for a 4-yard touchdown on a third-and-4 play early in the fourth quarter and improving to 4-0 in place of injured star Drew Brees.

Saints quiet Minshew Mania, handle Jaguars 13-6

Sunday, October 13th, 2019

Minshew Mania didn't have a prayer against New Orleans. Rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew was harassed, hurried and humbled in a 13-6 loss to the Saints on Sunday, his worst performance of the season coming just a few hours after Pope Francis accidentally tweeted support for the visiting team. ''Today we give thanks to the Lord for our new (hash)Saints,'' Pope Francis tweeted.
