Small business owner Terry Smiley is urging football fans to quit watching the NFL, and he even hired a pilot to fly his message over a Jacksonville Jaguars game. Smiley paid to have a banner flown over EverBank Field for nearly two hours during the Jaguars’ game against Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. The Florida resident says fans should boycott the NFL as long as players continue to kneel during the national anthem.

Seahawks guard Luke Joeckel is expected to miss at least four to five weeks after having surgery on his knee. Joeckel started the first five games of the season for Seattle while working back from a torn ACL sustained last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Joeckel signed a one-year deal with the Seahawks in March and was eased back into a full workload during the offseason.

Protests during the national anthem that began last season and flared to league-wide levels in the wake of President Trump’s condemnation have drawn widespread condemnation from fans. The Jacksonville Jaguars have sent a letter to Bill Spann, director of Jacksonville’s military affairs and veterans department, apologizing for the team’s demonstration. The team, including owner Shad Khan, locked arms during the anthem, with several players kneeling.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have apologized to local military leaders for demonstrating during the national anthem in London last month. Jaguars President Mark Lamping sent a letter to the director of military affairs and veterans in Jacksonville saying the team was ''remiss in not fully comprehending the effect of the national anthem demonstration on foreign soil has had on the men and women who have or continue to serve our country.'' The letter was forwarded to Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry on Monday and available via his public email.
