2019 NFL preview: With Nick Foles, Jaguars try to recapture a brief run at glory

Thursday, July 4th, 2019

Yahoo Sports is previewing all 32 teams as we get ready for the NFL season, counting down the teams one per weekday in reverse order of our initial 2019 power rankings. The Jacksonville Jaguars are back to being one of the NFL's relatively forgettable, middle-of-the-pack franchises. Just imagine if the Jaguars made one of about a dozen plays in the fourth quarter of the AFC championship game two seasons ago — Jaguars fans will remind you Myles Jack wasn't down and an ill-timed whistle cost them what might have been a game-clinching score — or Doug Marrone and his staff don't go into a shell and let the Patriots catch them.

Jack Del Rio had ‘no idea’ the Jaguars were drafting Blaine Gabbert in 2011

Tuesday, June 25th, 2019

The Jacksonville Jaguars traded up in the 2011 NFL draft to select Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert with the No. 10 overall pick — marking a pretty big move for the organization. Jack Del Rio, who lead Jacksonville from 2003-2011, said on ESPN690 in Jacksonville on Tuesday that he was very unaware that former general manager Gene Smith was making that move on draft night. “I had no idea we were going to draft Blaine Gabbert,” Del Rio said on Tuesday, via ESPN690. “No idea.

Saying he’s ‘growing,’ Jalen Ramsey won’t critique opposing quarterbacks

Monday, June 24th, 2019

Jalen Ramsey wasn't taking the bait this time. Almost a year after making headlines with his scathing critiques of some NFL quarterbacks, the Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback wasn't going down that path again in a recent interview. I'm not going to do this again' Ramsey and Jaguars coach Doug Marrone were guests on “The Adam Schefter Podcast” with the ESPN NFL personality, and Schefter jokingly asked Ramsey to give a breakdown of the QBs his team will face this season.

Jaguars’ Myles Jack hoping to create contract leverage with play in 2019

Saturday, June 22nd, 2019

DECEMBER 30: Deshaun Watson of the Houston Texans is tackled by Myles Jack of the Jacksonville Jaguars. In his three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Myles Jack has never missed a game, playing in all 48 and starting in 42 of those games. With Telvin Smith sitting out the 2019 season, Jack is hoping to take on some of the linebacker's workload and, in turn, boost his value.

Telvin Smith racks up $88K in fines from the Jaguars for missing minicamp after declaring he won’t play in 2019

Sunday, June 16th, 2019

The money he owes is the result of skipping a mandatory three-day minicamp recently held by the Jaguars and came to light after Smith posted a notice of the fines on his Instagram account. A screenshot of the post was captured by LockedOnJaguars.com Since Smith has not officially notified Jacksonville of his intentions this season, it makes complete sense the team would send a notice of fines. The Jaguars are strictly following the current collective bargaining agreement which seems like a smart way to make sure they won't have to pay the roughly $10 million owed to him each year for the next three seasons.

Smith posted a picture of the fine letter on his Instagram story Saturday, adding ''it's still love!!'' The letter shows the Jaguars fined him $14,775 for missing the first day, $29,550 for the second and $44,325 for the third. The letter says the fines are required by the 2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Jalen Ramsey says the Jaguars missed out on a hometown discount for an extension

Friday, June 14th, 2019

The Jacksonville Jaguars have reportedly already told Jalen Ramsey that they won't be giving him a contract extension this season. Now, the star cornerback seems set on making the team it made big mistake. Speaking with Jaguars teammate Leonard Fournette on Instagram Live, Ramsey gave a spirited analysis of his situation with the team.

Jaguars’ Ramsey: No extension coming in 2019

Tuesday, June 11th, 2019

The Jacksonville Jaguars informed Jalen Ramsey he won't receive a contract extension this year, the All-Pro cornerback said Tuesday at minicamp. Ramsey said he wasn't upset about the situation, even joking on Twitter that he planned to "ask for so much money, they have to put me on lay-away." "As long as I'm a part of this organization, as long as I'm a part of Duval County, I'm going to give the city and the players all I've got, and I think y'all know that," Ramsey said.

Jalen Ramsey says Jaguars told him he’s not getting contract extension this year

Tuesday, June 11th, 2019

The Jacksonville Jaguars delivered some news to star CB Jalen Ramsey, which he then shared with the media at Jaguars minicamp on Tuesday. Pass rusher Yannick Ngakoue is skipping mandatory minicamp as he wants more money. The silver lining for Ramsey and the Jaguars is that he's at least attending camp.

Contract seekers Jadeveon Clowney, Robbie Gould, Yannick Ngakoue to skip mandatory minicamps

Monday, June 10th, 2019

Several NFL teams held their mandatory minicamp, generally the concluding event of spring offseason work, last week. But some are holding theirs this week, and so far three players who are in contract disputes with their respective teams won't be taking part. Pass rushers Jadeveon Clowney of the Houston Texans, Yannick Ngakoue of the Jacksonville Jaguars and San Francisco 49ers kicker Robbie Gould are all expected to miss the mandatory camps.
