Cowboys tap several sources to fill Witten’s leadership void

Tuesday, July 31st, 2018

Sean Lee responded with strong words to criticism from former teammate Dez Bryant. Tyrone Crawford felt compelled to tell the team these Dallas Cowboys won't be in the business of dramas such as Bryant's Twitter-fed rant early in training camp over who he felt was responsible for his offseason release. With tight end Jason Witten's sudden retirement after 15 years for a TV job, the Cowboys can't defer to the franchise leader in games, starts and catches on any number of topics.

Juggernaut Index, No. 17: Jimmy Garoppolo, Niners can be fantasy gold

Tuesday, July 31st, 2018

Jimmy Garoppolo went a perfect 5-0 as quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers last season, completing 67.4 percent of his passes and averaging 8.8 yards per attempt. Garoppolo won’t have an elite pass-catcher at his disposal in 2018, either, but his receiving corps is deeper and more talented than last year’s crew. It hardly seems possible that anyone missed Garoppolo’s work in 2017, but if you need a reminder of his play-making ability, check the highlight package from Week 15.

Seahawks WR Baldwin (knee), DE Jordan (shin) out a few weeks

Tuesday, July 31st, 2018

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin and defensive end Dion Jordan are expected to miss much of training camp as the team takes a cautious approach with their injuries, head coach Pete Carroll said Tuesday. "We're going to give him a couple of weeks here before we bring him back out to make sure we've ramped him back up properly," Carroll said. Carroll also told reporters that Jordan -- who has yet to be activated from the physically unable to perform list -- is going to be out for some time with "a stress issue." Jordan had a knee scope earlier this offseason, but Carroll said the new issue is unrelated to that knee and is on the other leg.

Now Joseph is taking on one of the most heated debates in sports — the name and logo of the Washington Redskins.

Packers GM looks to young players after injuries on D

Tuesday, July 31st, 2018

The Green Bay Packers may have shown a greater willingness this offseason to sign veteran free agents under first-year general manager Brian Gutekunst, but the team is standing pat for now after injuries to key contributors on defense. One day after inside linebacker Jake Ryan (knee) and safety Kentrell Brice (ankle) each had to be carted off the practice field, Gutekunst said Tuesday he's not going to seek outside help at either position. With Ryan out, rookie third-round draft pick Oren Burks took snaps with the No. 1 defense at inside linebacker.

Need to Know: Redskins’ OLB Ryan Anderson went to work after disappointing rookie year

Tuesday, July 31st, 2018

RICHMOND-Here is what you need to know on Wednesday, August 1, eight days before the Washington Redskins open up their preseason at New England. When most people make a list of players who need to come through for the Redskins in 2018 they probably will get pretty far down before they put down outside linebacker Ryan Anderson. Last year Anderson was drafted in the second round and he did not produce much.

Bucs’ Fitzpatrick prepares to fill in for suspended Winston

Tuesday, July 31st, 2018

As a veteran quarterback accustomed to ever-changing roles, there's little Ryan Fitzpatrick hasn't experienced during a 14-year NFL career. Now, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are counting on him to help them weather Jameis Winston's three-game suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy. ''I thought I had seen and been through it all,'' said Fitzpatrick, who's entering his second season with his seventh pro team.

Tiered fantasy QB rankings: Deshaun Watson doesn’t make Tier 1

Tuesday, July 31st, 2018

The return of defensive stalwarts and the inevitable kiss of regression will suppress Deshaun Watson’s 2018 fantasy value (AP Photo/Chris Tilley) In my view, fantasy rankings are taking a linear thought process into an inherently fluid decision-making
