Rays rough up R A Dickey Jays in season opener

The hometown Tampa Bay Rays scored in four of the first five innings, touching Blue Jays starter R.A. Dickey for six earned runs, on the way to a 9-2 drubbing of Toronto in the season opener for both teams on Monday.

Raiders sign CB Carlos Rogers (The Associated Press)

The Oakland Raiders have added another proven veteran to their rebuilding defense, signing free-agent cornerback Carlos Rogers to a one-year contract on Monday. Rogers, 32, joins former San Francisco 49ers secondary mate Tarell Brown on Oakland's overhauled defense. The Raiders have also brought in defensive linemen Justin Tuck, LaMarr Woodley and Antonio Smith.

Rogers will line up in the slot, with fellow ex-49ers defensive back Tarell Brown and second-year pro D.J. Hayden on the outside. Especially playing with Tarell, and I have been good friends with Charles Woodson since Ive been in college, it was easier to come here and play with them.

Free safety Ryan Clark signed a one-year deal with the Washington Redskins. The longtime Pittsburgh Steeler visited the Seattle Seahawks last week and received interest from multiple teams on the free agent market before landing in Washington. The 34-year-old has played in one Pro Bowl over his 12-year career, and started all 16 games in 2013, including the 2004 and 2005 seasons in Washington starting alongside the late Sean Taylor. Clark finished second on the team in tackles (102) last season in Pittsburgh and will acclimate quickly to a 3-4 defense that coordinator Jim Haslett envisions closely resembling the Steelers' attacking scheme.
