Province pledges 22 5 million for Ivor Wynne

The Ontario government is giving Hamilton an additional $22.5 million to renovate Ivor Wynne Stadium for the 2015 Pan American Games. The one-time payment announced Sunday helps cover a funding shortfall left after the city council approved a new motion on the reconstruction earlier in the week.

Indiana Pacers fire coach O Brien

Jim OBriens future as the Indiana Pacers coach was in question heading into a four-game trip, and team president Larry Bird didnt get the answers he wanted. Bird fired OBrien on Sunday after the team squandered a promising start to the season by losing seven of its past eight games.

AFC turnovers help NFC win

MVP DeAngelo Hall had one of his teams five interceptions and returned a fumble 34 yards for a touchdown to help the NFC match a Pro Bowl scoring record in a 55-41 victory over turnover-prone AFC in a game that was not nearly as interesting as the final would indicate.

Watson rallies to win at Torrey Pines

Bubba Watson made clutch putts on the last two holes Sunday, including a 12-foot birdie on the par-5 18th for a 5-under 67 to win the Farmers Insurance Open in a finish that was dramatic for peculiar reasons.

Celtics overcome Kobe NBA Roundup

Paul Pierce scored 32 points, Kevin Garnett had 18 points and 13 rebounds with a large bandage over a cut on his head, and the Boston Celtics won their NBA finals rematch with the Lakers on Sunday, overcoming Kobe Bryants 41 points in a 109-96 victory.

Team Lidstrom takes NHL all star affair

Patrick Sharp of the Chicago Blackhawks of Team Staal was named the games most valuable player after finishing with a goal and two assists, but it was Team Lidstrom that finished one goal ahead at the 58th NHL All-Star Game Sunday in Raleigh.

Durant brands Bosh fake tough guy

Oklahoma Citys Kevin Durant drew a rare technical foul for jawing with Miamis Chris Bosh in the first quarter of their game Sunday. And he wasnt done talking. When Durant was asked after the game about the altercation, he said: Theres a lot of fake tough guys in this league and hes one of them.

McEwen wins Canadian Open curling event

Winnipeg skip Mike McEwen mades a perfect nose takeout in the extra end to edge Glenn Howard 5-4 and win the BDO Canadian Open curling event in Oshawa, Ont. McEwen and his rink took home the championship trophy as well as the $25,000 winners cheque.

McEwen upends Howard to win Canadian Open curling event

Winnipegs Mike McEwen upset Glenn Howard of Coldwater, Ont., 5-4 in an extra end to capture the BDO Canadian Open, handing Howards rink its first loss of the curling event. McEwen cemented the championship with a point on the final stone of the extra end after Howard stole one in the eighth.
