Ex NHL boss says Quebec City fans deserve team

Former NHL president John Ziegler says Quebec City fans deserve another NHL team but that it remains to be seen whether the venture can be profitable. The city will need strong corporate sponsorship to support the franchise.

Alpine Canada calls safety summit to help curb injuries

Pitchers Volquez Dickey avoid arbitration MLB

Among the deals announced Monday in Major League Baseball, right-hander Edinson Volquez and the Cincinnati Reds agreed to a one-year contract worth $1,625,000 US that avoided salary arbitration, while knuckleballer R.A. Dickey and the New York Mets agreed to a two-year, $7.8 million deal.

Polamalu edges Matthews for NFL s top defensive player

Pacers hand Raptors 12th straight loss

Chelsea smashes British transfer record with Torres signing

Chelsea smashed the British transfer record in signing Fernando Torres for a reported 50 million pounds (C$80.1 million) from Liverpool on Monday. The Spain striker signed a 5 ½-year contract at Chelsea in a move described by Liverpool as a British record.

Canucks call up Hodgson from AHL Moose

Fehr meeting face to face with NHL players

The heavy travel started before Donald Fehr officially accepted the position of executive director of the NHL Players Asosciation on Dec. 18. Fehr believes in the power of face-to-face communication so hes been traversing the continent to meet as many hockey people as possible.

Hamilton approves stadium renovation
