2016 Olympics logo unveiled New Year s Eve in Rio

The logo for the 2016 Olympics will be unveiled for the first time at Rios traditional New Years celebrations. It will be shown just moments before the fireworks at Copacabana beach are set to go off at midnight on Friday. The logo will be projected on a huge screen on the sand.

Rain shouldn t disrupt Winter Classic NHL

Stamkos torches Habs with 4 point night

Steven Stamkos had two goals and two assists, rookie goalie Cedrick Desjardins won in his NHL debut and the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Montreal Canadiens 4-1 on Thursday night. Stamkos punctuated his performance with a spin-o-rama goal on a penalty shot in the third period.

Leafs fall flat against Blue Jackets

R.J. Umberger scored the game-winner on a third-period power-play as the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 Thursday. Umbergers winner, and 11th of the season, came at 3:34 of the third. With Joey Crabb off for holding, Umberger tipped a Rick Nash wrist shot for the winner.

Ducks captain Getzlaf to miss 2 games

Anaheim Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf will be out for at least two games after a deflected puck broke his nose. The Ducks put Getzlaf on injured reserve Thursday, which means hell miss the clubs upcoming home games against Philadelphia and Chicago.

NFL fines Jets 100K for sideline trip

The NFL fined the New York Jets $100,000 US on Thursday for violating league rules when assistant coach Sal Alosi tripped Miamis Nolan Carroll on the sideline during a punt return. The Jets were fined because Alosi placed players in a prohibited area on the sideline to impede opposing players.

Favre still hasn t passed concussion test

Minnesota Vikings interim coach Leslie Frazier said Thursday that Brett Favre hasnt passed a post-concussion test, leaving the 41-year-old quarterback roughly three more days to gain medical clearance to play Sunday at Detroit.

Canadian skier Helie set to leave hospital

Canadian skier Louis-Pierre Helie suffered a concussion and serious knee injury Tuesday when he crashed during a World Cup downhill practice session in Bormio, Italy.
