Budinger leads Rockets past Raptors

Reserve guard Chase Budinger scored a season-high 22 points, Kevin Martin added 20 and the Houston Rockets beat the Toronto Raptors 114-105 on Friday night. Houston shook off a poor first quarter to shoot 48 percent to win their ninth in 10 home games.

Flames start post Sutter era with win

Tom Kostopoulos and Tim Jackman had a goal and an assist each to lead the Calgary Flames to a 3-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Friday. Jarome Iginla also scored for the Flames, who won their first game since Jay Feaster took over as acting general manager after Darryl Sutter resigned on Tuesday.

Sloppy Canadians fall to Sweden

A loss to Sweden was not the way the Canadian juniors wanted to ring in the New Year. Instead, they were left wringing their hands after the teenagers in the yellow Tre Kronor sweaters exhibited more hustle and intensity and celebrated a 6-5 shootout win against Canada at HSBC Arena on Friday.

Habs ship Lapierre to Ducks

Canada can t close out Swedes

Canada suffered its first loss of the world junior hockey championship on Saturday, but it has big implications. The Canadians dropped a close decision to Sweden 6-5 in a shootout, and missed the chance to get a bye into the semifinals. Canada led three times in the contest but couldnt close the game out.

Winter Classic moved to Saturday night
