Johnson homers twice as Braves top Astros

Kelly Johnson went 4-for-4 with two home runs and five runs batted in as the Atlanta Braves crushed the Houston Astros, 12-4, in the opener of a three-game set at Turner Field. Brian McCann homered and knocked in four runs and Jeff Francoeur went deep and scored three runs for the Braves, who have won two in a row after a four-game skid.

MLS profits high despite Beckham abscence

David Beckhams left ankle kept him sidelined Tuesday from the Los Angeles Galaxys game against FC Dallas in the SuperLiga tournament, but the injury hasnt hurt Major League Soccers bottom line. Like nearly all of the Galaxys road games through the end of this season, this match was sold out, an MLS rarity in the pre-Beckham era.

Mirza upsets Peer at Acura Classic

Roddick moves into 3rd at Legg Mason

Andy Roddick advanced to the third round of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic by defeating Tomas Zib 6-4, 6-2 Tuesday night. It was the first match for Roddick, a two-time winner of the event and this years No. 1 seed, since losing to Frank Dancevic of Niagara Falls, Ont., in the semifinals last week in Indianapolis. Roddick said Monday he was slowed in that match in part because of an upset stomach brought on by a late-night fast food meal.

Bears sign DT Walker to 5 year deal

The Chicago Bears and defensive tackle Darwin Walker agreed to a five-year, US$25 million contract on Tuesday, two days after the team acquired him in a trade with Buffalo. Walker will earn about $2 million this season, plus $8 million to $9 million in bonuses and possibly another $3.5 million in incentives over the length of the contract, according to his agent Albert Irby.

Cook wins again as Rockies down Marlins

Jays Litsch holds Devil Rays in check

Former Tampa Bay bat boy Jesse Litsch threw 6 2-3 shutout innings against his old team, leading the Toronto Blue Jays past the Devil Rays 2-0 on Tuesday night. Litsch (4-4), a Devil Rays bat boy from 2000 through 2002, gave up seven hits in his first pro start at Tropicana Field. The right-hander struck out two and walked one.

Zimmerman helps Nats over Reds

Ryan Zimmerman hit a three-run double in the fifth inning as the Washington Nationals downed the Cincinnati Reds, 6-3, in the opener of a three-game set at RFK Stadium. Ryan Church went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI and Nook Logan was 3-for-4 with a run scored for the Nationals, who have won four of their last six games. Matt Chico (5-6) got the win as he gave up two runs on nine hits with three walks and four strikeouts in five innings of work.

A Rod hitless as Yanks tie club HR mark
