Ochoa blunder gives Pak her chance

Se Ri Pak kept her mistakes to a minimum, finished with a 35-foot birdie putt and now stands one round away from becoming with the seventh woman to complete the career Grand Slam. Lorena Ochoa made a whopper that might cost her a chance to win her first major and move to No. 1 in the world.

NHL upholds Simpson suspension

A suspension given to Islanders defenceman Todd Simpson when he was in the German Ice Hockey League was upheld by the NHL on Saturday night, preventing him from making his debut with New York. Simpson, signed Thursday by the Islanders for the final week of the regular season, was suspended indefinitely after receiving a penalty for abuse of an official while playing in the Hannover Scorpions last postseason game.

Maske comes out of retirement beats Hill

Howard wins in first draw at world champs

Canadas Glenn Howard didnt waste any time picking up his first win at the Ford World Mens curling championship. Howard stole points in three ends on the way to a 7-3 victory over Olympic silver medallist Markku Uusipaavalniemi of Finland in the opening draw. It was Canadas only game on the opening day of the championship.

Wilkinson refuses to report to Broncos

Dan Wilkinson failed to report to the Denver Broncos, so the trade with the Miami Dolphins was declared void Saturday. The Broncos sent a sixth-round pick to the Dolphins on March 2 for the 14-year veteran defensive tackle. They extended an earlier deadline for the defensive lineman to report but when he failed to show up for his physical, the deal was voided.

Cavs James takes charge in OT

LeBron James scored 39 points, including seven in overtime, and Larry Hughes added 21 points to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to 112-108 victory over the Chicago Bulls on Saturday. Cleveland leads Chicago by 1½ games for second place in the Eastern Conference. The three division winners are guaranteed spots in the top four playoff seeds, meaning the Bulls would be seeded fifth despite holding the third-best record in the conference.

Rays Dukes stays Cantu sent down

Elijah Dukes could hardly contain his emotions. In the past, thats been a problem for Tampa Bays 22-year-old outfielder. But this was different: Dukes found out he not only made the team out of spring training, he will start in centre field on opening day at Yankee Stadium. Dukes, who had a tumultuous year in the minors last season, cant wait to make his major league debut Monday for the Devil Rays, who also sent second baseman Jorge Cantu to the minors in a surprise move.

Thrashers get closer to playoffs with win

Keith Tkachuk scored the winner, Kari Lehtonen saved 25 shots, and the Atlanta Thrashers moved a step closer to clinching their first playoff berth with a 3-2 win over the Boston Bruins on Saturday. Atlanta squandered a 2-0 lead, but Tkachuk bailed them out when he poked a rebound past Boston goalie Joey MacDonald with 18.6 seconds remaining in the third.

Wickenheiser named captain of team Canada

Hayley Wickenheiser will captain Canada again. Wickenheiser, of Shaunavon, Sask., was named captain for Canadas team at the upcoming IIHF world womens hockey championship Saturday. This is a great time for Hayley to take on a more rounded leadership role on Team Canada, Davidson said.
