Tigers made US 38 mill in playoffs

The Detroit Tigers generated about US$38 million in ticket sales, parking and concessions and souvenirs during this years playoffs, economic experts say. Lansing-based Anderson Economic Group came up with that total based on the six post-season games played at Comerica Park.

Stewart wins Bass Pro Shops 500

Tony Stewart won Sundays Bass Pro Shops 500. The No.20 Home Depot Chevrolet driver crossed the finish line 1.196 seconds ahead of Jimmie Johnson after the two had battled over the last 100 laps. The victory was Stewarts fourth of the season and 28th of his Nextel Cup career. This is a race Ive always wanted to win, said Stewart.

Romo makes good in Cowboys victory

Tony Romo rallied Dallas from a 14-point first-quarter deficit, throwing for 270 yards and a touchdown, and Julius Jones rushed for 94 yards and a score as the Cowboys beat the Carolina Panthers 35-14 Sunday. Dallas set a team record with 25 fourth-quarter points.

A s start internal managerial interviews

The Oakland Athletics have scheduled interviews with their two internal candidates about the clubs managerial opening. Bench coach Bob Geren is set to meet with general manager Billy Beane and other team officials Monday, then third-base coach Ron Washington will follow Tuesday. Beane also has an interview set up with Orel Hershiser, currently an ESPN baseball analyst, in Phoenix for sometime the following week.

Hejduk scores twice as Avs top Wild

Milan Hejduk recent productive play is leading to greater success for the Colorado Avalanche. Hejduk scored twice and Tyler Arnason added his fourth of the season to lead the Avalanche to their fourth win in six games, a 4-1 triumph over the Minnesota Wild. Avenging a 3-2 loss to Minnesota on October 5, Colorado finished their three-game homestand on a winning note and denied the Wild in their bid for the first 10-win month in franchise history.

QMJHL Graham leads St John s comeback

Ryan Grahams short handed goal topped the St. Johns Fog Devils third period comeback Sunday. Graham scored the winner at 12:37 into the third in the Fog Devils 4-3 turnaround against the Lewiston Maineiacs in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action Sunday.

Police make arrest in Berbick murder

Police have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the killing of former heavyweight boxing champion Trevor Berbick, who was bludgeoned and left to die in a church courtyard next to his familys home in a rural Jamaican hamlet.
