Penn State fans seem perfectly fine seeing John Donovan leave for Washington

New Washington head coach Jimmy Lake will be replacing numerous parts of his offense next season and filled a huge gap. Lake, who moved from OC to head coach last month,  named former Penn State offensive coordinator John Donovan at the same position for the Huskies. "Coach Donovan has a great deal of experience at both the college and NFL levels, learning from a lot of great offensive minds about coaching the kind of aggressive, pro-style offense we want to play here at Washington," Lake said.

Franklin discusses considerations for bringing Ciarrocca on as new OC

Penn State head coach James Franklin wanted to steer the conversation toward the Cotton Bowl. Hours after a report that Minnesota offensive coordinator Kirk Ciarrocca would be the Nittany Lions' new OC, then confirmed by the program via social media and a press release, Franklin took to the podium at Cowboys Stadium for the team's official Cotton Bowl Media Day press conference. Praising the entirety of the operation, the facilities, the Dallas Cowboys and the Nittany Lions' Saturday morning opponent - the Memphis Tigers - Franklin's opening sentiments were short-lived.

Allowing just one touchdown drive to a Panther offense that made clutch plays all afternoon, the Nittany Lions largely kept their opponent out of the end zone and, in many ways, picked its struggling offense up. And, largely overlooked, Penn State's special teams, a problem spot throughout the 2018 season, was an integral piece of the win. With placekicker Jordan Stout setting a Penn State record with a 57-yard field goal to end the first half and punter Blake Gillikin pinning the Panthers inside their 20-yard line on six of his seven punts, the Nittany Lion kicking specialists were nothing short of tremendous.
