Bernardo Silva says Manchester City were right not to swap Tottenham fixtures despite ‘complicated’ pitch

Tuesday, October 30th, 2018

Manchester City made the right decision to play Tottenham on Wembley’s awful pitch on Monday instead of switching the Premier League tie to the Etihad, says Bernardo Silva. City's 1-0 victory, courtesy of Riyad Mahrez’s early goal, was played out on a pitch that had been used to host an NFL match just over 24 hours prior to Monday’s kick-off. The pitch was marked with a large NFL logo in the centre circle and there were larges patches of the surface that had been affected by Sunday’s clash between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Philadelphia Eagles.

Wembley pitch left in dire state for Tottenham vs Manchester City

Monday, October 29th, 2018

Tottenham's continued homeless state leaves them squeezing in a 'home' Premier League match against Manchester City, just two days before the Carabao Cup tie against West Ham, and only 24 hours after an NFL game that tore up the pitch at Wembley Stadium. The Philadelphia Eagles ran out 24-18 winners against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday and the surface suffered terribly. It is in a bit of a state ahead of the game on Monday night, which will see two of England's best passing teams attempting to stick to their natural game and keep the ball on a far from perfect pitch.

No worries for Guardiola over post-NFL Wembley pitch

Friday, October 26th, 2018

Pep Guardiola has no concerns over NFL-inflicted damage to the Wembley pitch ahead of Manchester City's trip to Tottenham on Monday. The Jacksonville Jaguars take on the Philadelphia Eagles at England's national stadium on Sunday – a date that led to a scheduling headache after Spurs' move from their temporary home to the new White Hart Lane was hit by ongoing delays. Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino joked that the unusual state of affairs could help his side and hinder City's slick passing approach but, even if that proves to be the case, Guardiola insists the playing surface will not be used as an excuse.

De Bruyne worried over NFL damage to Wembley pitch

Thursday, October 25th, 2018

Kevin De Bruyne is concerned over the potential state of the Wembley pitch when Manchester City take on Tottenham on Monday. The Premier League leaders make the latest step in their title defence in a crunch clash with Spurs that takes place at England's national stadium a day after the NFL meeting between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Philadelphia Eagles. City's smooth passing game appeared close to its peak in the supreme 3-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday, but Belgium midfielder De Bruyne acknowledges things could be different against Mauricio Pochettino's men.

Manchester City encouraged Girona to move home match against Barcelona to the United States, claims La Liga chief

Friday, September 7th, 2018

Manchester City encouraged Girona to be part of the first La Liga match to be played in the United States early next year, the competition’s president Javier Tebas has claimed. Last month La Liga announced a 15-year deal with Relevent Sports, the US entertainment company that runs the International Champions Cup preseason tournament, to stage top-flight Spanish league matches in North America from this season onwards. Girona have accepted La Liga and Relevent’s offer to move their home match against Barcelona in January 2019 to Miami, and Tebas suggested that they did so partly at the urging of City, who became joint-majority shareholders in the Spanish club along with manager Pep Guardiola’s brother and agent Pere last year.

Tottenham to play Man City and three Champions League games at Wembley

Monday, September 3rd, 2018

Tottenham have confirmed that their Premier League meeting with Manchester City at the end of October and all three of their home Champions League group games will be played at Wembley. The club announced in August that they had been forced to delay the move into their new stadium at White Hart Lane until at least late October due to "issues with the critical safety systems", after initially targeting September 15. At the time of that announcement, Spurs remained hopeful of being able to face City at their new home on October 28, but any chance of that has now been dashed – the game being confirmed for England's national stadium a day later due to a clash with an NFL fixture between the Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars.
