Falcons, 1-4 for the 2nd straight year, are in big trouble

Monday, October 7th, 2019

The Atlanta Falcons can only hope a few days in the desert will turn their season around. When the NFL announced its schedule six months ago, coach Dan Quinn decided his team, after visiting Houston, would spend a week in Arizona leading up to its game against the Cardinals. Quinn took a similar approach three years ago, and the time together helped form what he still calls the ''brotherhood,'' a slogan he bled all the way to the Super Bowl and uses to this day.

Atlanta Falconrs owner Arthur Blank said he isn't considering any coaching changes after his team is off to a 1-4 start for the second consecutive season. Head coach Dan Quinn, 49, is 37-32 in his sixth season with the club, including an NFC championship in 2016 that led to a painful 34-28 overtime loss to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LI after Atlanta squandered a 25-point lead. The Falcons finished 7-9 last season after their 1-4 start.

The Atlanta Falcons are a long way from leading the New England Patriots 28-3 in the Super Bowl. Things have gone from bad to worse since that historic collapse with Sunday's ugly 52-33 loss to the Houston Texans securing a 1-4 start of what's shaping up to be a second straight season missing the playoffs. Deshaun Watson had a field day against a porous Falcons defense, racking up 426 passing yards, 46 rushing yards and five touchdowns through the air.
