Tiebreaker to decide Strauss finalists

A four-way tiebreaker will decide the final playoff participant at the Strauss Canada Cup curling event. Pat Simmons, Mike McEwen, Kevin Martin and Jeff Stoughton each finished round-robin action in mens Pool A with a 2-3 record.

Riley Unfair to blame Heat s Wade

Pat Riley doesnt think its fair to blame Dwyane Wade for the Miami Heats problems this season, since the all-star guard is coming back from off-season surgeries on his left knee and left shoulder.

Wright Pietrus lead Warriors over 76ers

Brandan Wright got Golden State off to a quick start by eclipsing his career high in scoring before the end of the first quarter, Mickael Pietrus scored a season-high 23 points, and the Warriors beat the Philadelphia 76ers 119-97 on Friday night. Wright, a little-used rookie, scored 11 of his 12 points - one more than his previous best scoring game - in the first quarter of his third start, and the Warriors never trailed on the way to their sixth win in eight games.

Wade powers Heat past SuperSonics

Dwyane Wade scored 31 points, leading the Miami Heat to a 103-93 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics on Friday night for just their third victory in the last 30 games. Wade, who had consecutive sub-20-point games this week for the first time this season, helped give the Heat (11-52) just their third victory in the past 30 games.

Columbus rallies to down Canucks in OT

Jason Chimera scored 1:07 into overtime and the Columbus Blue Jackets rallied from a two-goal third period deficit to beat the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 on Friday night. Andrew Murray and Rick Nash, with his team-leading 34th of the season, had regulation goals for the Blue Jackets, who trailed 2-0 entering the third period. Dick Tarnstrom added two assists, and Pascal Leclaire made 21 saves as Columbus won for the third time in four games.

Ducks beat Flames for fifth straight win

Defencemen Mathieu Schneider and Scott Niedermayer each had a goal and an assist, Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 22 saves and the Anaheim Ducks beat the Calgary Flames 3-1 Friday night for their fifth straight victory.

OHL Petes drop 67 s

Trevor Cann stopped all 31 shots he faced Friday night and Pat Daley had the games lone goal in the Peterborough Petes 1-0 victory over the Ottawa 67s.

Bute stops Joppy in tenth round

Lucian Bute of Montreal battered veteran William Joppy round after round and finally stopped him at 1:08 of the 10th on Friday night to retain his IBF super-middleweight title before 13,858 roaring spectators at the Bell Centre. Bute (22-0) knocked down Joppy (39-5-1) with a right in the ninth and forced the American to take a knee again in 10th. He finishing the scheduled 12-round bout with a flurry of shots in a neutral corner as the crowd chanted the Romanian-born champions name.

Roughriders sign import RB Griffin

The Saskatchewan Roughrider signed import running back Quentin Griffin to a one-year plus an option contract. Quentin is a very talented young man, general manager/vice president Eric Tillman said. His quickness, pass catching skills and return ability are all perfectly suited for the Canadian game. And, just as importantly, Quentin is the kind of character guy we are building this franchise around.

QMJHL Huskies topple the Titan

Michael Dubuc scored twice, including the game-winner, as the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies built a three-goal first-period lead and held on to beat the Acadie-Bathurst Titan 5-4 in QMJHL action Friday night.
