Bergeron s two goals lead Isles past Canes

Marc-Andre Bergeron had two goals and an assist, and the New York Islanders scored three goals in a 3:39 stretch of their 4-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday night. Bill Guerin and Ruslan Fedotenko also scored and Mike Comrie added two assists for the Islanders, who entered tied with Phoenix for the fewest goals in the league with just 90 but scored all four goals in the second period - three on the power play.

Canada wins 2007 Spengler Cup

Warriors rally past Rockets

Golden State was sloppy, coach Don Nelson was furious and the Warriors still beat the Houston Rockets. Baron Davis scored 23 points and Al Harrington had 16 points and 11 rebounds as Golden State overcame 21 turnovers to rally past the Rockets 112-95 on Monday night.

Oiler close 2007 with loss to Jackets

Rick Nash scored three times to break out of a goal-scoring slump and the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-2 on New Years Eve. Ethan Moreau and Steve Staios also scored for the Oilers, who fell to 0-4-2 in the past six games.

Sharks extend road streak to 10 games

Legace and Blues shut out Wings

Manny Legace made 31 saves for his 20th career shutout to lift the St. Louis Blues to a 2-0 win over the NHL-leading Detroit Red Wings on Monday night. It was the first time Detroit, winners of 14 of its last 16 games, was held scoreless this season. St. Louis snapped a four-game losing streak. Erik Johnson and Lee Stempniak scored for the Blues.

Raps finish off road trip in New Orleans

The Toronto Raptors wrap up a season-long seven-game road trip tonight, when they visit the streaking Hornets at New Orleans Arena. It will the first time ex-Raptor Morris Peterson has played his former teammates. This is the first of two meetings between the clubs this season. Toronto is scheduled to host the Hornets on March 30, 2008 at Air Canada Centre.

Hamilton Billups send Pistons past Bucks

Richard Hamilton scored 22 points and Chauncey Billups added 13 points and 12 assists, helping the Detroit Pistons rout the Milwaukee Bucks 114-69 Monday for their ninth straight win. The 45-point margin of defeat was the third-worst in Bucks history, trailing a pair of 48-point losses. The Pistons have won 17 of 19, including a franchise-record 15 wins in December, while Milwaukee has lost four straight and six of seven.

Clemens welcome to speak at convention

Roger Clemens is still welcome at a convention of Texas high school baseball coaches. The group reconsidered its invitation after Clemens was mentioned prominently in the Mitchell Report on steroids. On Monday, the coaches said they found no reason to prevent the star pitcher from addressing their annual meeting next month.
