Williams scores as Hawks drop Stars

Jason Williams provided the rousing finish for the Chicago Blackhawks. For Mike Modano, a Dallas Stars loss was only one aspect of an emotionally draining night. Williams scored his second goal with 20.4 seconds left and the Blackhawks snapped a nine-game losing streak in Dallas, beating the Stars 5-4 on Wednesday night.

Ginobili guides Spurs over Grizzlies

Manu Ginobili scored 30 points, including the go-ahead basket with 32 seconds left as the San Antonio Spurs beat the Memphis Grizzlies 104-101 Wednesday night. Ginobili, who had nine points down the stretch, added seven assists and drew a late charge from Grizzlies forward Rudy Gay to preserve the Spurs lead.

Raptors sign Humphries to multi year extension

The Raptors plan to keep Kris Humphries in a Toronto uniform through the next four seasons. The Raptors signed the forward to a contract extension through the 2010-11 season Wednesday.

Williams scores twice as Hawks drop Stars

Dallas Stars centre Mike Modano matched Phil Housley for the most points by an American-born NHL player, earning his 1,232nd point Wednesday night with an assist on Sergei Zubovs power-play goal against Chicago. Modano, already the U.S. goal leader with 509, set up Zubovs goal at 10:07 of the third on a 5-on-3 advantage. The 37-year-old Michigan native has two goals and four assists in the first 12 games this season.

QMJHL Esposito leads Remparts to win

The Quebec Remparts are on fire and Angelo Esposito is stoking the flames. The 18-year-old centre scored two goals and added an assist Wednesday to power the Remparts to 5-2 win over the Chicoutimi Sagueneens in QMJHL action.

Foster lifts Marlies over River Rats

Alex Fosters short-handed goal in the third period broke a 2-2 tie and the Toronto Marlies beat the Albany River Rats 3-2 Wednesday in American Hockey League action. Derrick Walser scored a pair of goals for the Marlies (7-0-0-1), who lead the North Division with 15 points. Scott Clemmensen was largely untested in Torontos net, making 12 saves on 14 shots.

Labrie Moose beat Flames in shootout

Pierre-Cedric Labrie scored in the fifth round of a shootout as the Manitoba Moose beat the Quad City Flames 3-2 Wednesday in American Hockey League action. Alexandre Bolduc and Colby Genoway had goals in regulation time for the Moose (6-3-1-0), who kept pace with the Toronto Marlies in the North Division.

Big finish leads Pacers to win over Wizards

Jamaal Tinsley scored 16 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter and overtime, and the Indiana Pacers beat the Washington Wizards 119-110 on Wednesday night to give coach Jim OBrien a win in his debut. Tinsley also had nine rebounds and eight assists. Mike Dunleavy had 25 points and 12 rebounds, and Danny Granger added 20 points and 13 boards for the Pacers.

Jefferson leads Nets over Bulls in OT

Unwanted Antoine Wright scored 14 of his career-high 21 points in the fourth quarter and overtime to lead the New Jersey Nets to a 112-103 victory over the distracted Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night. Richard Jefferson added 29 points and 10 rebounds, Vince Carter had 24 points and a big steal late and Jason Kidd handed out 13 assists to lead the Nets to their 12th straight win over Chicago in New Jersey.

Mavericks hold off LeBron for victory

The Dallas Mavericks began anew. LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers wish they could start over. Jason Terry scored 24 points, Dirk Nowitzki added 15 and the Mavericks, whose NBA title pursuit last season ended with a stunning first-round exit against Golden State, opened 2007-08 with a 92-74 victory over the Cavaliers on Wednesday night.
