Glavine denied 300th as Brewers rally late

Geoff Jenkins two-run home run in the 13th inning gave the Milwaukee Brewers a 4-2 win over the New York Mets, on a night Tom Glavine was denied his 300th victory. Glavine did not get his milestone victory in his first attempt despite giving up just one run on two hits with six walks and two strikeouts in six-plus innings.

Lackey goes the distance in Angels victory

John Lackey threw a seven-hit shutout as the LA Angels of Anaheim downed the Seattle Mariners, 8-0, in the second of a four- game set at Safeco Field. Lackey (13-6) walked three and struck out five while throwing 106 pitches (67 strikes) for his first shutout and first complete game of the season.

Webb Diamondbacks shutout Padres

Brandon Webb tossed seven brilliant scoreless innings to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 4-0 win over the San Diego Padres in the opener of a three-game series at Petco Park.

Donovan powers Galaxy past FC Dallas

With David Beckham out of action again, Landon Donovan scored a goal and assisted on three more to lead the Galaxy over FC Dallas 6-5 Tuesday night and earn Los Angeles a berth in the SuperLiga semifinals. Los Angeles finished the first round 2-0-1, despite playing without their new star midfielder in any of the three games.

Roddick moves to 3rd Round at Legg Mason

Andy Roddick advanced to the third round of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic by defeating Tomas Zib 6-4, 6-2 Tuesday night. It was the first match for Roddick, a two-time winner of the event and this years No. 1 seed, since losing to Frank Dancevic of Niagara Falls, Ont., in the semifinals last week in Indianapolis. Roddick said Monday he was slowed in that match in part because of an upset stomach brought on by a late-night fast food meal.

Cubs hand loss to streaking Phillies

Jason Kendall registered two runs batted in and Jason Marquis pitched six solid innings, as the Chicago Cubs downed the Philadelphia Phillies, 7-3, at Wrigley Field. Marquis (8-6) earned the win after he allowed three runs on eight hits with four strikeouts for the Cubs, who evened this four-game series after a 4-1 loss in Mondays opener. Chicago has won three of its last four games.

McGahee has rough start with Ravens

Willis McGahee had barely gotten used to his new shoulder pads when it came time for him to start carrying the football. Eager to impress, McGahee took off around left end. He was met by sixth-round draft pick Prescott Burgess, who showed a bit too much enthusiasm in the no-contact drill by steamrolling the running back and separating him from the ball.

O s Bedard wins 7th straight decision

Erik Bedard of Navan, Ont., allowed only two hits in six innings to win his seventh straight decision, and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Boston Red Sox 5-3 despite two homers by David Ortiz on Tuesday night. Bedard (11-4) struck out six and walked five to give Baltimore its sixth victory in seven games. Ortiz hit a two-run homer in the third that accounted for the only runs off Bedard, and he added a solo shot in the eighth that made it 5-3.

Cardinals manage to hold off Pirates

Yadier Molina drove in two runs while Adam Wainwright pitched six solid innings, as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates, 6-4, in the opener a three-game series at PNC Park.

Hunter Silva lead Twins over Royals

Carlos Silva threw eight innings and Torii Hunter homered as the Twins posted their fourth consecutive victory, 5-3 over the Kansas City Royals. Alexi Casilla, Lew Ford and Jason Bartlett each had two hits and an RBI for the Twins. Silva (9-11) allowed seven hits and two runs, while fanning three to win for the third time in four decisions.
