Holyfield dominates Savarese in decision

Evander Holyfield outworked and outclassed Lou Savarese on Saturday night, winning a 10-round unanimous decision to remain undefeated in his latest comeback. Holyfield, the 44-year-old former heavyweight champion, started and ended the fight with a hard left to the head of the 41-year-old Savarese. In between, Holyfield was in control.

Sosa stops Beckett s push for 12th

Sammy Sosa hit his 602nd career homer leading the Texas Rangers to a 5-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Saturday night and spoiling Josh Becketts last start before the all-star rosters are announced. One day after striking out with the bases loaded in the Rangers 2-1 loss, Sosa lined a solo shot off the front row of the Monster Seats to break a 4-4 tie.

Renteria and Braves reel in Marlins

Tim Hudson pitched seven sharp innings, Edgar Renteria hit a tiebreaking double in the eighth and the Atlanta Braves beat the Florida Marlins 6-5 on Saturday night. Renterias double off reliever Armando Benitez (2-4) drove in Willie Harris, breaking a 1-1 tie and sending the Braves to their fifth straight win. Atlanta had not won five straight since May 8-12.

Sabathia wins 12th as Indians top D Rays

C.C. Sabathia became the majors first 12-game winner and Grady Sizemore drove in three runs to lead the Cleveland Indians to an 8-6 win over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on Saturday night. Sabathia (12-2) matched last seasons win total, and is 7-1 with a 2.62 ERA in his last 10 starts.

Franchitti domates field in Richmond

Pole-sitter Dario Franchitti led all but nine laps and held off Scott Dixon and Dan Wheldon with the help of a late caution Saturday night, giving the points leader his first IndyCar Series victory at Richmond.

Pirates get offensive against Nationals

Tom Gorzelanny limited Washington to two runs over 7 1-3 innings in another effective start, and Adam LaRoche drove in three runs in the Pirates 7-2 victory Saturday night. The Nationals offence was about as effective against Gorzelanny (8-4) as was the planned fan protest by Pirates rooters unhappy with the clubs refusal to spend money to upgrade a team stuck in a 15th consecutive losing season.

Orioles double up Angels

Brian Burres took a three-hitter into the eighth inning, Ramon Hernandez hit a three-run homer and the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Los Angeles Angels 6-3 Saturday night. Kevin Millar drove in two runs and scored twice, and Melvin Mora had his second straight three-hit game for the Orioles, who improved to 6-4 under interim manager Dave Trembley.

Francis helps end Rockies losing skid

Jeff Francis allowed three hits in seven innings and the Colorado Rockies beat their former ace Jason Jennings and the Houston Astros 5-0 Saturday night to snap an eight-game losing streak. Garrett Atkins drove in two runs, Matt Holliday had an RBI double and the Rockies won for just the fourth time in 13 games. Francis (8-5) struck out four and limited the Astros to Mark Lorettas double and Craig Biggios two singles.

White Sox need 10 innings to edge Royals

Tadahito Iguchi poked a two-run single into right field with two out in the 10th inning, lifting the Chicago White Sox past Kansas City 3-1 on Saturday night. Octavio Dotel (0-1) started the 10th and gave up a pinch single to A.J. Pierzynski and hit Scott Podsednik, who reached for the fourth time in the game. With two out, Paul Konerko was walked intentionally, loading the bases.

Lohse shines as Reds down Cardinals

Kyle Lohse rebounded from the worst outing of his career with one of his best of the season Saturday night, pitching into the eighth inning and hitting a sacrifice fly while leading the Cincinnati Reds to a 5-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. The Reds reached the halfway point of their season at 31-50, the worst record in the majors. Its their worst midpoint mark since they also were 31-50 in 2005.
