Shanahan rips refs for Jagr treatment

Brendan Shanahan isnt the captain of the New York Rangers, hes just the guy who sticks up for him. Shanahan ripped NHL officials Wednesday night after the Rangers 2-1 home loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs because of what he feels is prejudiced officiating against captain Jaromir Jagr. I dont know what the deal is, an angry Shanahan said. Guys hit him late, guys hit him high, guys hook his hands.

Ducks come back to edge Coyotes

Travis Moen and Andy McDonald scored the tying and go-ahead goals less than 90 seconds apart in the third period, Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 24 saves and the Anaheim Ducks beat Phoenix 2-1 Wednesday night for their ninth straight home win over the Coyotes. Curtis Joseph stopped the first 29 shots he faced and was trying to make Fredrik Sjostroms first-period goal stand up when the Pacific Division leaders finally got on the board with 12:27 to play.

Oilers slow down streaking Jackets

Fernando Pisani had a goal and two assists to lead the Edmonton Oilers to a 5-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday night. The Oilers (25-22-4) earned their second straight win to finish a five-game homestand with a 3-2 record and move to within four points of a playoff spot. Columbus (21-26-5) suffered its first loss in five games.

Tremblay shines in OHL All Star game

Hunter Tremblay of the Barrie Colts scored three goals and assisted on two others to lead the Eastern Conference to a 13-9 win over the Western representative in a record-breaking Ontario Hockey League all-star game Wednesday night.

Okur scores 31 in Jazz win over Spurs

Mehmet Okur scored 14 of his 31 points in the fourth quarter, including eight in the final minute to lead the Utah Jazz over the San Antonio Spurs 97-93 Wednesday night. Okur also pulled down 11 of Utahs 50 rebounds and Deron Williams added 14 points and seven assists for the Jazz, who had lost two straight.

McGrady powers Rockets over Sonics

Tracy McGrady scored 36 points to match Ray Allen on Wednesday night and lead the Houston Rockets to 112-102 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics, who tied a franchise record with their 14th consecutive road loss. McGrady and Allen both delivered plenty of highlight-reel baskets, but McGrady finished off the Sonics with a three-pointer from the top of the key with 51 seconds left.

Sixers sting Hornets in Paul s return

Andre Iguodala scored 22 points, Samuel Dalembert grabbed 15 rebounds to lead Philadelphias dominant effort on the boards, and the 76ers spoiled Chris Pauls return with a 89-78 victory over the New Orleans Hornets on Wednesday night. Joe Smith added 12 points and a season-high 12 rebounds, and Steven Hunter had 12 points and 10 rebounds as Philadelphia held a 58-40 advantage on the boards.

Mavericks hang on to edge Grizzlies

Dirk Nowitzki overcame a tough shooting night with 26 points, including 16 in the fourth quarter, to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a 95-94 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night. Nowitzki shot 8-of-20 from the field but hit all 10 of his free throws, including eight in the fourth period to hold off the Grizzlies, who lost for the third time in the last four games.

Kings pick up another road victory

Kevin Martin had 28 points, including the go-ahead jump shot with 16.6 seconds left, as the struggling Sacramento Kings staved off another road defeat and beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 100-98 on Wednesday night. Ron Artest had 23 points, Mike Bibby added 14 points, and Brad Miller had nine points, nine rebounds and nine assists for the Kings, who won for only the fourth time in 15 games. They improved to just 4-11 on the road against the Western Conference.

Quebec remains host for 2008 Worlds

Quebec City will remain as the co-host of the 2008 world hockey championship. Quebec City had been named the co-host of the 2008 world hockey championship with Halifax, but planning for the event had been plagued by problems.
