Schumacher joins Ferrari front office

Seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher, who retired from racing last week, will stay on at Ferrari as an assistant to new chief executive Jean Todt. The basis of my future will be that of a super assistant to Jean, Schumacher said Sunday at the Ferrari World Finals, the racing teams traditional season-closer. He did not elaborate on his new role, saying he needed to reflect on what he might be able to offer Ferrari.

Tomlinson Merriman lift Chargers past Rams

LaDainian Tomlinson was Lights Out. So was Shawne Merriman. Tomlinson accounted for 240 total yards and three touchdowns and Merriman registered three sacks as the San Diego Chargers posted a 38-24 victory over the St. Louis Rams in an interconference contest.

Bears improve to 7 0 with win over 49ers

A week off recharged the unbeaten Chicago Bears. They jumped on the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday like an orange-clad blur. Their quick defence ravaged the mistake-prone 49ers and their offence moved with ease. And by halftime, the Bears were cruising 41-0 on their way to a 41-10 victory.

Manning and Wayne pick apart Broncos

Peyton Manning and Reggie Wayne picked, poked and plowed their way through a Denver defense that was designed specifically to stop them. Manning passed for 345 yards and three touchdowns - all to Wayne - and Adam Vinatieri kicked a 37-yard field goal with 2 seconds left Sunday to lift the Indianapolis Colts to a 34-31 victory over the baffled Broncos. The Colts are the first team to start 7-0 in consecutive seasons since the 1929-30 Green Bay Packers.

Steelers struggles continue in Oakland

The Pittsburgh Steelers might have been better off if Big Ben sat out this game. Chris Carr returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown, Nnamdi Asomugha also took back an interception by Ben Roethlisberger for a score and the Oakland Raiders mounted a late goal-line stand to hold on for a 20-13 victory over Pittsburgh on Sunday.

Controverisal ruling helps Browns beat Jets

The catch - or was it one? - was incredible. The ruling was incredulous. A potential one-handed tying touchdown grab by New York tight end Chris Baker in the final minute was called out of bounds, giving the Cleveland Browns a 20-13 win over the Jets on Sunday.

Sharks sink teeth into Lightning

Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau scored power-play goals to help the San Jose Sharks beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2 on Sunday. The Sharks, with the NHLs top power-play unit, converted two of three chances. Ryane Clowe scored his first career NHL goal, Mike Grier added an empty-net goal and Evgeni Nabokov stopped 18 shots for San Jose.

Stewart outlasts Johnson for win

Tony Stewart won Sundays Bass Pro Shops 500. The No.20 Home Depot Chevrolet driver crossed the finish line 1.196 seconds ahead of Jimmie Johnson after the two had battled over the last 100 laps. The victory was Stewarts fourth of the season and 28th of his Nextel Cup career. This is a race Ive always wanted to win, said Stewart.

Flyers try to regroup after blowout

The renewed optimism John Stevens brought with him in his first week as Flyers coach lasted all of one game. Now its Stevens turn to get Philadelphia back on track after a humbling, blowout loss - something Ken Hitchcock could never do before he was fired last week.

67 s coach Kilrea nabs 1 100th career win

Brian Kilreas latest win not only helped the legendary junior hockey coach reach another milestone, it also gave him a sense of relief. Kilrea, the all-time winningest coach in Canadian junior hockey history, recorded his 1,100th career victory with a 4-1 triumph over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in Ontario Hockey League action Sunday.
