Cubs eight run lead slips away in loss

Jeff Baker singled in two runs with two out in the 14th inning, and the Colorado Rockies beat the Chicago Cubs 11-9 Saturday after seeing an eight-run lead disappear. The game lasted 4 hours, 53 minutes and included a 38-minute rain delay in the 11th inning. Jacque Jones RBI single with two outs in the ninth tied it for the Cubs.

Astros preserve playoff hopes with win

Pinch-hitter Orlando Palmeiros single drove in the tiebreaking run as the Houston Astros scored three times in the ninth inning and held on to beat the Atlanta Braves 5-4 Saturday night and preserve their playoff hopes.

Jays drop Yankees move into second

Alex Rios hit a go-ahead, two-run triple and Toronto rallied from a 4-1deficit to beat the New York Yankees 6-5 on Saturday. Rioss triple against T.J. Beam came in a four-run seventh inning, getting three unearned runs after an error by backup first baseman Andy Phillips.

Millar lifts Orioles over Red Sox

Kevin Millars two-run single in the ninth inning lifted Baltimore to a 5-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Saturday night, snapping the Orioles nine-game losing streak at Fenway Park.

Argos hang on to defeat Stampeders

Ricky Williams and Eric England scored second-half touchdowns as the Toronto Argonauts hung on for a tense 23-16 home win over the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday night. England brought the season-high Rogers Centre gathering of 32,410 to its feet in the third quarter with an 80-yard interception return that broke a 9-9 tie. Williams put Toronto ahead 23-9 with a nine-yard TD run at 2:46 of the fourth, his second touchdown run of the year and first at home.

Habs roar back to stop Senators

Alexei Kovalev scored twice and Sergei Samonsov had one as the Montreal Canadiens used three third-period goals to defeat the Ottawa Senators 6-5 in NHL pre-season action Saturday night. Trailing 5-3 going into the final period, Kovalev scored on a rush down the left side at 3:51, Samsonov banged in Andrei Markovs pass at 15:16 and Kovalev had the sell-out crowd of 21,273 on its feet as he got the game-winner with 1:52 left to play. The left Montreal at 3-5 and Ottawa at 5-4 as both clubs completed their pre-season schedules.

Drury nets winner Sabres ice Penguins

Chris Drury broke a third-period tie, Henrik Tallinder had a goal and an assist, and Ryan Miller made 20 saves to help the Buffalo Sabres beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-2 on Saturday night in the pre-season finale for both teams.

Yashin hot as Islanders blank Devils
