Annika Sorenstam tamed difficult afternoon conditions to join a four-way tie for the lead after Fridays opening round of the U.S. Womens Open.
Sorenstam is tied with Se Ri Pak, Pat Hurst and amateur Jane Park, one shot ahead of a large group including Michelle Wie.

Stiles in front at Buick Championship

Darron Stiles came close to his first PGA win at the Buick Championship last season. It looks like he will have another shot at his initial win again this year.
Stiles carded his second 4-under-par 66 at the TPC River Highlands and has a one-shot lead after Fridays second round of the $4.4 million event.

Mets activate Floyd demote Milledge

The New York Mets on Friday activated left fielder Cliff Floyd from the 15-day disabled list and optioned outfielder Lastings Milledge to Class AAA Norfolk.
Floyd, who was placed on the DL on June 10 with a sprained left ankle, is starting and batting fifth against the New York Yankees on Friday. After a 2005 campaign in which he batted .273 with 34 home runs, Floyd has struggled this season. The 33-year-old is hitting just .238 with six homers and 19 RBI in 51 games.

Braves activate Reitsma from DL

The Atlanta Braves on Friday activated Chris Reitsma from the 15-day disabled list.
Reitsma started the season as the Braves closer, but he has struggled all season. The 28-year-old is 1-2 with eight saves in 12 chances, but he has allowed 44 hits in 26 2/3 innings and his ERA is an abysmal 9.11.

The Big Hurt is all better.
After missing the last 13 games with a strained right quadriceps, Oakland Athletics designated hitter Frank Thomas was activated from the 15-day disabled list Friday. The As also activated second baseman Mark Ellis, who has sat out the last 26 games with a broken right thumb.

Overbay and Blue Jays rock Phillies

Lyle Overbay homered twice and drove in a season-high five runs, backing a solid outing from Casey Janssen as the Toronto Blue Jays blasted the Philadelphia Phillies 8-1 Friday.
Janssen stymied the Phillies over six innings and the Jays provided plenty of run support for their rookie right-hander as Toronto (45-34) won its fourth straight. With the victory, the Jays moved 11 games above .500 for the first time since June 28, 2003.

Crawford D Rays humble Nationals

In only his third major league start, Tim Corcoran scattered three hits over seven innings as the Devils Rays routed the Washington Nationals, 11-1, in the first of a three-game interleague series.
Corcoran received an abundance of offensive support, as the Devil Rays pounded out 17 hits and five home runs. Carl Crawford had two blasts and four RBI while Rocco Baldelli had a homer and four RBI.
