Tim Petrovic is the feel good story of the year with his 2005 Zurich Classic of New Orleans victory!
Current PGA Tour News
Petrovic journey to the winner's circle at the Zurich Classic was not an easy one. Back in 1993 the chances of Petrovic winning a PGA Tour title looked almost impossible. His golf career has been a trial from the get go, he gave up golf 12 years ago to deliver pizza of all things and the road ahead looked bleak but he persevered and found a way to play again in 1998 when the father of some friends helped him get back. Petrovic completed his dream by holing a 4 foot par putt to beat rookie James Driscoll on the first playoff hole of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Its just the way he would have imagined it, with pressure on, no room for error, taking a deep breath and nailing the final shot for the tournament victory. You could not draw it up on the chalk board any better then this.
"That last putt seemed to take about 12 minutes to fall in," Petrovic said. "I saw every dimple rolling over, and over, and over and then it went in."
Petrovic earn entry on the 2002 PGA Tour and his first victory came 14 years after he turned pro, shooting a 4-under 68 to match Driscoll at 13-under 275. Driscoll, playing in the final group with Masters runner-up Chris DiMarco, had a 70, missing a 4-foot birdie try for the victory on No. 18.
DiMarco, who was the third-round leader and leader for most of the day, bogeyed No. 18 to finish one stroke off of the lead with Lucas Glover. This was DiMarco's first event since losing to Tiger Woods in a playoff at the 2005 Augusta National. DiMarco shot a 72 while Glover finished his final round with a 69.
