Adam Scott wins Nissan Open in a bizarre rain soaked weekend.
Current PGA Tour News
Scott made a 4-foot par putt on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff to beat Chad Campbell in the first 36-hole event on the PGA Tour in nine years. The strange unseasonable weather forced the cancellation of the third hole scheduled to resume on Monday. The rain was so heavy that the Riviera Country Club was deemed unfit for play.
That decision led to a playoff between Scott and Campbell, who both finished at 9-under 133. Scott finished his Second round on Sunday but Campbell had not played his second round since the Friday
So the story continues to get strange adding another asterisk to the books. Scott won the trophy as a cold rain continued to fall collected $864,000 check, which will count on the PGA Tour money list and is the same if he had won after 72 holes.
But because the 2005 Nissan open was only a 36-hole event Scott's victory will not be recorded as an official victory. As such Scott does not get any of the perks that come from winning on the PGA Tour, including a pass to the winners-only Mercedes Championships.
Other players to have won after only two rounds on the PGA Tour were Brian Henninger at the 1994 Southern Farm Bureau Classic, Neal Lancaster at the 1994 Byron Nelson Championship (Formerly known as the half-Nelson), and Michael Bradley in the 1996 Buick Challenge at Callaway Gardens. Those counted in the record books, but the PGA Tour changed its policy regarding incomplete tournaments.
