Padraig Harrington's final-round comeback overcoming a 7 stroke lead sets a new Honda Classic record.Current PGA Tour News At the Honda Classic, Padraig Harrington won his first PGA Tour title when Vijay Singh missed what looked like a gimmie 2-1/2 foot putt to bogey on the 2nd playoff hole on Sunday. It was a putt that I am sure Vijay Sing would say he shouldn't have missed.
Harrington who has been due for a PGA Tour victory, has been a runner-up 26 times in world events was also lucky. Padraig earned his victory Sunday by shooting a 9-under-par 63 in the final round to come back from 7 strokes down.
Although we are not certain, it seems that Harrington is the first player from the Republic of Ireland to win a tour event which is creating excitement back home for him.
Joe Ogilvie also made the playoff but bogeyed the first extra hole and was eliminated from extra play.
Singh who usually plays his best when under pressure missed a 15 foot birdie attempt on the first playoff hole that forced this match to continue. The missed putt set up Harrington's final-round comeback gaining 7 strokes on the leaders which was a Honda Classic record.
