Padraig Harrington's 65-foot eagle putt on the 18th hole wins the 2005 Barclays Classic
Current PGA Tour News
Harrington 3 shots behind Furyk with only 5 holes remaining overcame the odds with a little help from Furyk, at Westchester Country Club. This victory was Padraig's second PGA Tour victory of the season. Harrington, who beat Vijay Singh in the Honda Classic in early March to become the first player from the Republic of Ireland to win a PGA Tour event, walked off with the $1,035,000 first-place check after Furyk let it slip away with consecutive bogeys on Nos. 16 and 17.
Furyk left a long birdie try four feet left of the hole on the 372-yard 17th and missed his par attempt to drop into a tie with Harrington, setting up the dramatic finish on the par-5 closing hole. After Harrington holed the 65-footer -- his second eagle putt of the day -- to clinch the victory, Furyk made a 10-foot birdie putt for a 71.
Harrington bogeyed Nos. 11 and 12 to fall three strokes back but made a five-foot birdie putt on No. 14 to keep the pressure on Furyk. While Furyk dropped shots on 16 and 17, Harrington got up and down for par from the left rough on the par-3 16th and two-putted for par on No. 17. Furyk had the match but just couldn't put the final finishes to get the victory!
