The par-72 Trump International Golf Club is 7,300 yards from the championship tees. The setting is undeniably dramatic: an island 120 miles southwest of Barbados bereft of level terrain in a mountain chain rising sharply from the sea. The 453-yard, par-5 sixth hole plays down to the water, but the course then soars 840 feet above sea level to the 13th tee, a 498-yard par 5 with wraparound views of the Atlantic, Caribbean and neighboring islands. Holes 11 to 15 teeter on a knife's edge ridge, and the back side features two par 3s with exhilarating drops of 200-plus feet. The course is an enchantress. Alarmingly beautiful, she's tough to get your arms around, but once you do you quickly realize who's in control. She's not statuesque but her hip-hugging fairways and petite greens are unforgiving, and her grasp is ironclad. Any baubles you give up she does not give back. Curiously, the most forgettable hole is No. 18, a wide, straight, 448-yard par 4.
