The par-70 TPC at River Highlands is 6,820 yards from the championship tees. Meandering through a gorgeous piece of undulating property in the Connecticut River Valley, the Tournament Players Club at River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn., is perhaps the most beautiful course on the PGA Tour. TCP River Highlands course is rated as one of the top 100 golf courses in the United States. The club hosts the PGA Tour's Buick Championship, formally the Greater Hartford Open. This beautiful course has undulating terrain and beautiful yet dangerous ponds come into play on several occasions during play. A good mix of bunkers are scattered throughout its stadium-designed layout. The course was first redesigned by Orrin Smith in 1951, then again by Pete Dye in 1984, and Bobby Weed added eleven new holes and then did a third redesign in 1991. "Golf Digest" rated it as the 10th "Best in State" course for 1997-98.
Previous winners include, Peter Jacobsen (2), Phil Mickelson (2), Notah Begay III, Brent Geiberger, Olin Browne, Stewart Cink, D.A. Weibring, Greg Norman, David Frost, Nick Price, Lanny Wadkins, Billy Ray Brown, Wayne Levi, Paul Azinger, Curtus Strange and more.
