The par-71 Pinehurst Golf Course #2 is 7,189 yards from the championship tees. This resort, established in 1894, offers eight outstanding golf courses. Each feature defined cuts of rough along the tree-lined fairways, numerous sand bunkers, and mature trees coming into play on nearly every hole. With the opening of the Centennial Course in 1996, Pinehurst now has more holes than any other resort in the world. Named to GOLF MAGZINE's 2002 list of "Gold Medal Resorts," it was also recognized in 1995 as one of "The First 100 Clubs in America" by the same publication. Pinehurst Resort consists of 8 separate courses but the #2 course is the U.S. Opens tournament course. The #2 Course was renovated during 1996. GOLF MAGAZINE rated the #2 Course 4th best out of the "Top 100 Courses You Can Play in the U.S." for 2002.
