It's easy to miss DE Charles Johnson with all the attention focused on DE Quentin Moses. Named SEC’s Defensive Player of the Week following Georgia’s win at South Carolina… was named the SEC’s Defensive Lineman of the Week following the Ole Miss game with four tackles, two sacks, one pass breakup and two third-down stops.

Underclassman … Good size … Arguably outperformed preseason all-American DE Quentin Moses in 2006 … In a 3-4 defense, he would probably be a better fit as a DE, because he may be too stiff in the hips to convert to OLB … Playmaker … Ex-Basketball player … Has good speed off the edge … Explosive out of his stance … Registered 4 sacks and 8.5 tackles for loss off the bench in 2005, before earning a starting job in 2006 … Several dominant displays in his Junior year … Returned a fumble for a score against Louisiana-Monroe as a Sophomore and had a strip sack fumble recovery against Tennessee … Was unblockable against Western Kentucky, exploding into the backfield to get pressure on the QB and also reading and tackling on a screen and playing solidly against the run … Got some good pressure against Colorado, with the QB twice escaping a sack, and also tipped a pass that was almost intercepted, but did jump offside once … Stuffed a couple of runs up the middle against Vanderbilt, but was quiet overall … Did recover a fumble, although the runner was ruled down and also managed to get some pressure on the QB leading to a near interception, but was hurt in the 3rd quarter … Tackled the QB for a big loss on an option play against Florida and then rushed the QB and swatted the ball down on the next play … Batted another pass at the line of scrimmage later on … Spun away from his block to make a blindside coverage sack against Auburn and forced a hold with good penetration on a 3rd and 3 run, before tipping a pass at the line of scrimmage that was deflected … Also, got into a fight with Auburn QB Brandon Cox, who was obviously frustrated, having been pressured into an awful performance … Quiet game against Georgia Tech, but did record half a sack as the pocket collapsed in the 4th...Busted through the line for a sack for a safety against SC

Johnson led the Bulldogs with 7 1/2 sacks and 27 quarterback pressures this season. His final college game turned out to be a big one as he recorded two sacks in a 31-24 victory over No. 14 Virginia in the Chick-fil-A Bowl on Saturday
