LaRon Landry #14 prospect in 2007 NFL Draft.

LaRon Landry NFL Draft Bio

LaRon Louis Landry (born October 14, 1984, in Metairie, Louisiana) is a college football player for the Louisiana State University Fighting Tigers.

Landry attended Hahnville High School where he was ranked the #5 high school athlete in the United States by Rivals.com. Landry chose to attend LSU and made an immediate impact on the team, starting 10 games as a true freshman in 2003 while helping the Tigers win the BCS National Championship.

He chose to forego the lure of the NFL to return to LSU for his senior season even though many analysts projected him as a high draft pick. He is considered the top free safety in the nation and a potential All American for the 2006 NCAA Division I FBS football season.

He is the brother of former Georgia Tech football player and 2006 fifth round NFL draft choice of the Baltimore Ravens Dawan Landry.

LaRon represented the LSU Tigers football team this summer along with Coach Les Miles and teammate, wide receiver Dwayne Bowe, at the SEC Media Days in Birmingham, Alabama.

LaRon is currently listed, among several NFL Draft ratings sites, as the top safety available and will most likely be selected in the Top 10 of next year's draft.

Weaknesses:
LaRon Louis Landry is not known for his speed, his timed speed is only average and he is more quick than fast. Scouts worry that Landry is not overly athletic or fluid and tends to be overly aggressive, missing the occasional tackle while going for the big play. LaRon Landry still needs to develop physically, and work on his speed bursts which is a little lacking which hampers his ability to recover when beat. He also has a tendency to drop some balls.

Notes:
Brother Dawan, as safety for the Baltimore Ravens is a former fifth round pick who starts at safety. Many scouts feel that LaRon is a much better prospect than his brother was. At one point it seemed certain that LaRon Louis Landry was going to enter the 2006 NFL Draft as a junior but ultimately he decided to go back to school. LaRon is what many teams will consider to be the total package and a great all-around football player who will remind some of Ed Reed.
